2021 film In the Heights on 4K and Blu-ray in August

The 2021 film “In the Heights” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on August 31st, via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film, produced by and based on a musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda and directed by Jon M. Chu, stars Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, Olga Merediz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Gregory Diaz IV, Stephanie Beatriz, Dascha Polanco, and Jimmy Smits. The film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes with a 95% rating, at the time of writing.

UPDATE #1: The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound. The 4K UHD Blu-ray release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart. Both releases will include a digital code (copy) of the film.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-66 (66 gigabytes) disc. And the tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-50 (50 gigabytes) disc. Both the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that the 4K will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart, the Blu-ray will include its DVD counterpart, and each will come with a digital code (copy) of the film compatible with Movies Anywhere. The film won two Academy Awards (including ‘Best Adapted Screenplay’ and ‘Best Actor’) out of the 6 “Oscars” total that it was nominated for last night. The Father was directed by Florian Zeller and stars Anthony HopkinsOlivia ColmanMark Gatiss, Olivia Williams, Imogen Poots, and Rufus Sewell. The film, at the time of writing, is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

This latest in the “MonsterVerse” was directed by Adam Wingard. Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgård, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby BrownRebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, and Demián Bichir. It’s worth noting, at the time of writing this, the film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

EDITORIAL NOTE: Sadly, no there will not be a 4K physical release here in the United States of the film, it would appear. That’s a shame, as it aired on HBOMax earlier this year in 4K UHD with HDR10 and Dolby Vision as well as with Dolby Atmos sound. Maybe, if this film takes home some “Oscars” in the 6 categories it is nominated for, namely Best Picture, later this year, it might receive a 4K UHD Blu-ray release with all of that mentioned. One would speculate?
