2015 film Sicario gets Target exclusive SteelBook in June

The 2015 film “Sicario” will be getting a Blu-ray Disc SteelBook exclusively over at retailer Target on June 15th via Lionsgate. The film, directed by Denis Villeneuve, starred Emily BluntJosh BrolinBenicio Del Toro, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Donovan, Victor Garber, and Daniel Kaluuya. Tech specs for the Blu-ray of the film include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound. This release will come with a digital copy of the film. You can now find the Blu-ray Disc Exclusive SteelBook available for preorder over at Target. You can find a further glimpse at the artwork for this SteelBook below.

2000 Guy Ritchie film Snatch gets a 4K UHD Blu-ray in June

The 2000 film “Snatch” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on June 1st via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film, both written & directed by Guy Ritchie, starred Jason StathamBrad PittBenicio Del Toro, Dennis Farina, Vinne JonesRade Serbedzija, Andy Beckwith, Robbie Gee, Lennie James, Ade, Jason Flemyng, and Alan Ford. This movie has been “newly remastered in 4K resolution from the original camera negative.” Tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos as well as the original US/UK theatrical DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will come with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film. 2015 film The Little Prince arrives on Blu-ray in February

The 2015 stop-motion animated film “The Little Prince” is coming to Blu-ray Disc, for the very first time in North America, on February 9th via Paramount. The film, directed by Mark Osborne, featured a voice cast that included the talents of Jeff BridgesRachel McAdams, Paul Rudd, Bud Cort, Benicio Del Toro, James Franco, Ricky Gervais, Paul Giamatti, Riley Osborne, Albert Brooks, and Mackenzie Foy. The tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed but you can expect the studio [Paramount] to very likely officially announce this title next week. Stay tuned for an update regarding the tech specs and bonus materials. It is known, from the art (pictured above) that the release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. Dora and the Lost City of Gold comes to Blu-ray

The 2019 film Dora and the Lost City of Gold is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on November 19th via Paramount. The film, directed by James Bobin and based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series (“Dora the Explorer”), stars Isabela MonerEugenio Derbez, Eva LongoriaMichael Peña, Jeff Wahlberg, Danny Trejo, and features the voice talent of Benicio Del Toro (as “Swiper”). It’s worth noting that, at time of writing, this film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes. Tech specs for the release have not yet been fully detailed but you can expect 1080p video likely in the 1.85:1 theatrical aspect ratio and a lossless surround mix. I’ve asked Paramount for more details and I will update this post if and when I get those. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the DVD counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film included. You can find the Blu-ray is now available for preorder over at Amazon. Guardians of the Galaxy comes to 4K in October

The 2014 Marvel Studios film Guardians of the Galaxy appears to be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 1st via Marvel (Disney), according to multiple retailer listings. The film, part of the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” and directed by James Gunn, starred Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, and Sean Gunn. It also featured the voice talents of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper. Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray and a digital code (copy) of the film included. You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray now available for pre-order over at Amazon and at Best Buy. Speaking of retailer Best Buy, they will be getting a 4K Exclusive Steelbook release of the film (pictured below) which is available for pre-order as well.

The bonus materials set to be included on the release will be identical to those found on the previous Blu-ray, as they actually use that disc for the extras. No new extras will be included on this 4K release.

“Sicario: Day of the Soldado” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray in October

The 2018 sequel “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” starring Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on October 2nd via Sony. Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include full 2160p 4K video in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with both Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray Disc release include full 1080p HD video in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound. Both released will come in the form of “combo pack” with the 4K including a Blu-ray, the Blu-ray including a DVD, and both releases including a Digital Copy of the film. The film is available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon now on both the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray formats. Bonus materials set to be included on the releases are listed below.

  • “From Film to Franchise: Continuing the Story”
  • “An Act of War: Making Sicario: Day of the Soldado

It’s also worth noting that retailer Best Buy is showing that they’ll be getting an Exclusive Steelbook release of the film on 4K UHD Blu-ray, and that the release date is earlier: September 25th. I don’t know if this means that they’ll be getting the title a week early or that they’ve just not updated their PRE-ORDER listing for the Steelbook. Just realize the release date could actually be October 2nd, as it should be.

“Avengers: Infinity War” officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray in August

Disney has now officially announced plans to bring the 2018 Marvel Studios film “Avengers: Infinity War” to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on August 14th. Tech specs for the releases are as follows: the 4K UHD Blu-ray will receive Dolby Atmos sound and the Blu-ray Disc will receive DTS-HD 7.1 Master Audio sound. Both will be presented visually in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 High Dynamic Range. The pre-order listings are not yet available over at Amazon, but stay tuned for updates.

UPDATE: Forbes Tech journalist John Archer has received official word from Disney that this title will only receive HDR10 and not also include Dolby Vision – as most expected. Also, as many fans have expressed, even to me on social media, this release will be in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio strictly and not expand to the IMAX 1.90:1 aspect ratio as it did during its theatrical run.
