Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 4K and Blu-ray

The 2022 film “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on July 26th, via Marvel Studios (Disney).  The film, directed by Sam Raimi, stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, and Rachel McAdams.

Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.  The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 lossless surround sound.  The 4K UHD Blu-ray release will include its Blu-ray counterpart and both will come with a digital code (copy) of the film.

UPDATE:  You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.  It’s certainly worth noting that there will also be an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below) available over at retailer Best Buy, which is now up for preorder.

UPDATES:  It turns out that retailer Target will also be getting an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray Art Edition of the film (pictured below) which is now available for preorder.

Spider-Man No Way Home comes to 4K and Blu-ray April

The 2021 Marvel Studios film “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on April 12th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by Jon Watts, stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Marisa Tomei, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, and Alfred Molina.  It should most certainly be noted, at the time of writing, this film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.  Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in 2.39:1 aspect with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound.  Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K UHD Blu-ray getting its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray getting the DVD counterpart, and each includes a digital code (copy) of the film.

Spider-Man No Way Home is coming to 4K and Blu-ray

The 2021 film “Spider-Man: No Way Home” appears to be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray next year via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, according to retailer listings. There’s no official release date at this point, but stay tuned for a later news story when it gets fully announced.

The film, directed by Jon Watts, stars Tom HollandZendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Benedict Wong, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, and Alfred Molina.

The tech specs for the 4K and Blu-ray releases have not yet been detailed, nor have bonus materials, but stay tuned for an update on that [as said before] when the title gets officially announced. 2011 film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy on 4K in February

The 2011 film adaptation of “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” starring Gary Oldman is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 22nd, 2022 via KL Studio Classics. The film, directed by Tomas Alfredson, co-starred Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Toby Jones, Mark Strong, and John Hurt. It is most certainly worth noting that, aside from its three Academy Award nominations, this film was originally very well-received by critics. In fact, still to this date and at the time of writing, this still carries a “Certified Fresh” rating over at Rotten Tomatoes. However, it doesn’t need that badge stuck on the cover art, now, does it? Classy, Kino Lorber.

The movie has received a new 4K restoration, quoted below.

The film, nominated for a total of 10 and winner of 3 Oscars, starred Dean-Charles ChapmanGeorge MacKayDaniel Mays, Andrew Scott, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Richard Madden, and Benedict Cumberbatch. This film was very well-received by both critics and moviegoers as, at the time of writing, it carries a “Certified Fresh” rating over at Rotten Tomatoes.

UPDATE: This title has, as of today (2/21), been officially announced by Universal. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray includes 2160p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio, on a BD-100, in HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range with Dolby Atmos sound. The 2016 Marvel Studios film Doctor Strange starring Benedict Cumberbatch sure seems to be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 1st via Marvel (Disney), according to multiple retailer listings. The film, part of the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” and directed by Scott Derrickson, co-starred Chiwetel EjioforRachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Mads Mikkelsen, and Tilda Swinton. Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray and a digital code (copy) of the film included. The 4K UHD Blu-ray is now available for pre-order over at Amazon. Retailer Best Buy will be getting a 4K Exclusive Steelbook release of the film (pictured below) which is available for pre-order as well.

“Avengers Endgame” on 4K and Blu-ray in August

The 2019 Marvel Studios film “Avengers: Endgame” is officially coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on August 13th via Marvel (Disney). The film, directed by Anthony Russo & Joe Russo, stars Robert Downey Jr.Chris EvansMark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Brie Larson, Tom Holland, and Josh Brolin. This movie set a record during its theatrical run, which has now been extended, grossing over 2.7 billion (so far) worldwide. The film also has received much critical-acclaimed and carries a “Certified Fresh” rating (at time of writing) over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include 2160p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include 1080p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD 7.1 Master Audio sound. The scenes shot in IMAX will NOT be presented in their correct aspect ratio and sadly, will not expand to fill the screen. This and some other shortcomings of this release have been discussed already by our friend John Archer over at Forbes. Both releases will come in the form of “combo pack” with the 4K getting a Blu-ray, the Blu-ray getting a DVD, and each comes with a digital copy of the film. You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray of the film now available for pre-order over at Best Buy. Stay tuned for an update when Amazon correctly lists the title on both formats. There will also be an exclusive 4K Steelbook release (pictured below) available over at retailer Best Buy which is now available for pre-order.
