There will be some retailer-exclusive releases of the 1982 film “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial” to celebrate the 40th Anniversary on 4K UHD Blu-ray later this year. The film, directed by Steven Spielberg, starred Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace, Drew Barrymore, Peter Coyote, Robert MacNaughton, and C. Thomas Howell. It’s most certainly worth noting that this film is currently back in select theaters to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
No word on if this release will feature anything new in terms of a video transfer or different audio mix but it is likely just a re-release of the original 2017 4K UHD Blu-ray. That featured a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS:X immersive sound on a BD-66 disc. These releases are going to be coming in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray counterpart included as well as a digital code (copy) of the film with each.
So, the 4K UHD Blu-ray retailer exclusives for this release range in release date and I’ll note that for each. First off, you have an Amazon-exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray 40th Anniversary Edition Gift Set (pictured above and below). That includes a collectible tin tote (lunchbox), thermos, booklet & certificate of authenticity. This is going to be released on November 1st and you can now find that 4K Gift Set available for preorder now over at Amazon.
Finally, you will get a 4K UHD Blu-ray 40th Anniversary Limited Edition release with a BendyFig figurine over at retailer Walmart (pictured much further above and below). This release is said to be coming on October 18th and is now available for preorder over at Walmart.
The 2005 film adaptation of “V for Vendetta” starring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 3rd, via Warner. Some of you may remember me reporting this last month, and as of today, it has been confirmed via a press release from the studio. The film, directed by James McTeigue & based on the graphic novel (of the same title), had a screenplay adapted by The Wachowskis — Lana Wachowski & Lilly Wachowski — both best known for writing & directing “The Matrix” (1999). The film co-starred Stephen Rea, Stephen Fry, Rupert Graves, Tim Pigott-Smith, and John Hurt.
Tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The movie has received a new scan according to the press release, quoted below.
“The 4K UHD release of V for Vendetta is from a new scan of the original camera negative.”
The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will receive its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and come with a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. Amazon will be getting an exclusive4K UHD Blu-ray Giftset (as pictured below) which is now available for preorder, oddly enough.
Retailer Best Buy will also be getting an exclusive release of the film in the form of a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below), which is now available for preorder.
Bonus materials set to be included on the release, featuring some never-before-seen content, are listed below.

Now, the reason that I kept calling that version the standard 4K is because there will also be an exclusive4K UHD Blu-ray Giftset available over at Amazon which is already up and available for preorder (pictured below). Final UPDATE: This title has now been officially announced and you can find more information in another post HERE on the site.

Further below, after the break, where you can find the full info regarding this announcement of this upcoming 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray release of the trilogy.
It appears that the 1988 film “Beetlejuice” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 1st, via Warner, according to an early retailer listing. Since the release has yet to be confirmed (officially announced), I’m considering this a rumor. The film, directed by Tim Burton, starred Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, and Michael Keaton. The film’s tech specs and bonus materials have yet to be detailed but stay tuned for an update on that.
As I had initially reported, there is also a preorder listing for an Amazon Exclusive Giftset on 4K UHD Blu-ray (pictured further above). That set includes a lot of physical extras which you can see, like special packaging, book, poster, chalk, and an embroidered patch. I’ll have more info on this release as it develops.
UPDATE #1: So, Amazon seems to have noticed my news and other stories reporting the release date, that they clearly had listed of September 1st. As a result, they’ve now removed the release date. This has happened before with titles in the past. They will not cancel anyone’s preorders already placed and the listing shall remain up — unless anything were to happen such as a delay in the release itself. It seems Amazon just leaked the date, folks.
UPDATE #2: The standard 4K UHD Blu-ray of the film is now listed for preorder over at retailer Best Buy with the cover art (pictured above).
UPDATE #3: Retailer Best Buy has now put up a preorder listing for an exclusive4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release (pictured below) of the film set for a September 1strelease date. The studio [Warner] still has yet to officially announce this title, but stay tuned for any further updates. And, yes, that’s three places listing the film with artwork and in different versions, even. It’s safe to honestly say this is turning into more than a rumor.
