The 2019 documentary “Memory: The Origins of Alien“ is coming to Blu-ray Disc on November 19th via Screen Media Films, according to retailers. The subject of focus for the documentary is the modern Sci-Fi classic film “Alien” from 1979. Memory: The Origins of Alien was both written and directed by Alexandre O. Philippe, best known for making other documentaries about classic films – such as “The People vs. George Lucas” (2010), “Doc of the Dead” (2015), and “78/52: Hitchcock’s Shower Scene” (2017). The documentary itself features lots of artwork, behind-the-scenes footage, insight, and new interviews with folks discussing the film (Alien). It’s certainly worth noting that this was executive produced by Diane O’Bannon, wife of the late screenwriter Dan O’Bannon.
Tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed, so far. This documentary was just released theatrically yesterday, as to which it’s already getting some positive reviews from the likes of the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times. You can find more information about this film on the official website as well as via the official trailer (over on YouTube). The Blu-ray Disc is now already available for preorder over at Amazon and Best Buy. Stay tuned for further any details, as I have put in a request for info from the distributor (Screen Media Films).
The 1979 Ridley Scott directed sci-fi thriller “Alien“ is getting a “40th Anniversary”4K UHD Blu-ray release on April 23rd via Fox, as officially announced today. The film featured a cast of Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, John Hurt, Harry Dean Stanton, Veronica Cartwright, Yaphet Kotto, and Ian Holm. The 4K release will be sporting a new 4K restoration that was supervised by the director himself, as you can see quoted (from the press release) below.
The film was restored in 4K in 2018 by 20th Century Fox at Company 3/Deluxe Entertainment Services Group, supervised by Ridley Scott and Pam Dery, with the 4K scans were done at EFilm.
Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and DTS-HD Master Audio sound in 5.1 for both versions of the film and also in a 4.1 configuration for the Theatrical Version. Yes, this is the same audio as found as the previously released Blu-ray. The release will come in a form of “combo pack” with the Blu-ray and a digital copy of the film included.
1979 Ridley Scott directed Sci-Fi classic “Alien” may come to 4K UHD Blu-ray early next year, according to fansite AvP Galaxy, which reports that a Czech retailer (FilmArena) has a listing already up for the film in a 4K UHD Blu-ray release, which I’ve confirmed, and you can see HERE for yourself. The release date that is listed over there is January 5th. However, that fansite is reporting that you can see this come out sometime around, or specifically April 26th 2019 – Alien Day. Regardless of which month next year it will be coming out, the film coming to 4K next year would definitely make sense, as in 2019 the film will be celebrating its 40th anniversary. So far, no retailers in the United States are listing the title on 4K for pre-order, yet. As with all RUMOR posts, take this with a “grain of salt” so-to-speak, and wait for an official announcement from the studio (Fox). Lastly, I’d like to give credit to our friends over at Bloody-Disgusting for first reporting this. Stay tuned for any further developments on this possible upcoming 4K release.
