The 1989 film Uncle Buck is coming to 4K in February

The 1989 film “Uncle Buck” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 18th via KL Studio Classics. The film was written & directed by John Hughes. It starred John Candy, Macaulay Culkin, Jean Louisa Kelly, Gaby Hoffmann, Amy Madigan, Laurie Metcalf, Mike Starr, Garrett M. Brown, and Elaine Bromka.

The movie has received a new 4K master, from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision or HDR10 forms of high dynamic range on a BD-100 disc. Audio will be presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and Lossless 2.0 Stereo. The release will come as a “combo pack” with a Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.

The 2000 film Reindeer Games on 4K in January

The 2000 film “Reindeer Games” will be released in two formats. It will be available on 4K UHD Blu-ray and Special Edition Blu-ray Disc. The release date is January 14th via KL Studio Classics. The film was directed by John Frankenheimer. It starred Ben Affleck, Charlize Theron, and Gary Sinise. It also featured Dennis Farina, Clarence Williams III, Isaac Hayes, and Danny Trejo. Further roles included Donal Logue and James Frain.

The movie’s theatrical cut has received a new 4K master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation of the theatrical cut in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and lossless 2.0 sound, on a BD-100 disc. The tech specs for the Special Edition Blu-ray include a 1080p video presentation of the Director’s Cut in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0 lossless sound, on a BD-50 disc. The Director’s Cut comes from an HD master. The 4K release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.

The 1962 film “Hatari!” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Special Edition Blu-ray Disc on December 10th via KL Studio Classics. Howard Hawks directed and produced the film, which starred John Wayne, Hardy Kruger, Elsa Martinelli, Red Buttons, Gérard Blain, Bruce Cabot, Michèle Girardon, Valentin de Vargas, and Eduard Franz.

The movie has received a new 4K master from a 16-bit 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and lossless 2.0 stereo sound, on a BD-100 disc. Tech specs for the Blu-ray Special Edition include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and lossless 2.0 stereo sound, on a BD-50 disc. The 2017 film “The Shape of Water” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 26th via The Criterion Collection. The Academy Award-winning 2018 Best Picture of the Year, directed & co-written by Guillermo del Toro, starred Sally Hawkins, Richard Jenkins, Michael Shannon, Octavia Spencer, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Doug Jones. Aside from winning four Academy Awards, the film is still “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s most certainly worth noting that this film has already received a 4K UHD Blu-ray release back in 2018, yet this will feature a different visual presentation.

The movie has received a 4K digital master, supervised by director Guillermo del Toro. 1974 film Murder on the Orient Express comes to 4K

The 1974 film adaptation of “Murder on the Orient Express” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 24th via KL Studio Classics. The film, directed by Sidney Lumet, was based on the novel of the same title (written by Agatha Christie. It featured an all-star cast that included Albert Finney, Sean Connery, Ingrid Bergman, Anthony Perkins, Vanessa Redgrave, Lauren Bacall, Martin Balsam, Jacqueline Bisset, Jean-Pierre Cassel, John Gielgud, Wendy Hiller, Rachel Roberts, Richard Widmark, and Michael York. It’s worth noting that this film is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

The Power of the Dog gets Criterion 4K and Blu-ray

The 2021 film “The Power of the Dog” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on November 8th via The Criterion Collection.  The film (as seen on Netflix), directed and adapted to screenplay by Jane Campion, stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Kirsten Dunst.  It’s certainly worth noting that, at the time of writing, this film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie has received a 4K DI (digital intermediate) master which was approved by the director (Jane Campion).  The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.28:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 or Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.  Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.28:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Atmos sound.  The 4K UHD Blu-ray release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning it will be a 2-disc set with its Blu-ray counterpart.
