Furiosa Black and Chrome Edition on 4K in September

The 2024 film “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” the “Black & Chrome Edition” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 24th individually and as part of “Mad Max: 5-Film Collection“ via Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. The film was directed & co-written by George Miller, known for correspondingly directing all of the previous “Mad Max” franchise films. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Alyla Browne, Tom Burke, George Shevtsov, Lachy Hulme, John Howard, Angus Sampson, and Charlee Fraser. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.

“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Black & Chrome Edition is a version of the theatrical film which has the color removed in favor of a black a chrome aesthetic.  Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Black & Chrome Edition will feature an introduction by director George Miller.”

There will an individual 4K UHD Blu-ray release of this version of the film. Also, the “Black & Chrome Edition” of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” will be included with the “Mad Max: 5-Film Collection“ on 4K UHD Blu-ray (pictured below). No Blu-ray version of this collection is planned stateside. This set is now available for preorder over at Amazon, retailer Walmart, and online retailer GRUV. The 2017 film “Wind River” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on September 10th via Lionsgate as an exclusive to retailer Walmart. The film, written & directed by Taylor Sheridan, starred Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Julia Jones, Gil Birmingham, and Graham Greene. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless surround sound. The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital copy. The 2002 horror film “The Ring” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and a limited edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on October 15th via Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Gore Verbinski, starred Naomi Watts, Martin Henderson, David Dorfman, Brian Cox, and Jane Alexander. Previously released this year as part of “The Ring Collection” set on 4K UHD Blu-ray (by Scream Factory), this will be the first time the film has been available for individual purchase on the 4K UHD Blu-ray format.

Tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. The standard 4K and 4K SteelBook will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital copy included. The bonus materials for the release have yet to be announced.

Super Friends Collection on Blu-ray in September

The original animated TV series “Super Friends!: The Complete Collection” is coming to Blu-ray Disc on September 10th via Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. The show, which ran on ABC from 1973 through 1985, has been remastered and will be finally getting its HD release, for the very first time. It includes all 93 episodes of the Hanna-Barbera produced 1973 TV series via the following:

  • Includes the “Lost Episodes”
  • “The All-New Super Friends Hour” (1977-1978)
  • “Challenge of the Super Friends” (1978-1979)
  • “The World’s Greatest SuperFriends” (1979-1980)
  • “Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show” (1984-1985)
  • “The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians” (1985-1986)

The 1955 film “The Ladykillers” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Special Edition Blu-ray Disc on September 24th via KL Studio Classics. Cowboys and Aliens on 4K UHD Blu-ray in September

The 2011 film “Cowboys & Aliens” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 17th via KL Studio Classics. The film, directed by Jon Favreau, starred Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Paul Dano, Clancy Brown, Keith Carradine, Sam Rockwell, Adam Beach, Walter Goggins, Abigail Spencer, and Wyatt Russell.

Tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with SDR (standard dynamic range) and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and DTS-HD Master 2.0 Stereo lossless sound, on a BD-100 disc. The tech specs for the Blu-ray will include a 1080p HD video presentation in 2.39:1 with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and DTS-HD Master 2.0 Stereo sound, on a BD-50 disc. The release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. The 4K disc will contain the theatrical cut (119 minutes) and the Blu-ray will feature the “Extended Cut” (135 minutes).

The 4K UHD Blu-ray will NOT include any form of high dynamic range and the folks at KL Studio Classics have discussed this choice on social media, specifically on X, as quoted below.

“So before everyone asks, the master was created from the original DI master, we tried to create a HDR/Dolby Vision master, but ran into many issues that could not be resolved, we dropped the Dolby Vision to see if it would make a difference, but it didn’t. So our 2 choices were to either release it on 4K using a UHD SDR master or cancel the release altogether, we think we made the right choice.”
