Read moreThe films “Yojimbo“ (1961) and “Sanjuro“ (1962) are officially set for release on 4K UHD Blu-ray as “Two Samurai Films by Akira Kurosawa” on January 7th via The Criterion Collection. Akira Kurosawa directed and co-wrote both Japanese films which starred Toshirô Mifune.
Each film has received a 4K digital restoration. The tech specs for the 4K release include Black & White 2160p SDR (standard dynamic range) video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with uncompressed LPCM Mono sound and optional DTS-HD Master Audio Perspecta 3.0 soundtracks, “preserving the original simulated stereo effects.” The 4-disc set will come as a “combo pack” with each film on its own 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc.
The 4K UHD Blu-ray is now available for preorder at Amazon. You can also preorder directly via Criterion’s website. The bonus materials set to be included with the release are listed below.
The Disney+ original Marvel Studios series “Hawkeye – The Complete First Season” will be available on 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on December 3rd via Marvel Studios (Disney). The show stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Vera Farmiga, Tony Dalton, Fra Fee, Aleks Paunovic, and Linda Cardellini.
The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, spanning across a 2-disc set (each on a BD-100 disc).

The 2024 film “Joker: Folie à Deux” is officially set for release on 4K UHD Blu-ray, 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook, and Blu-ray Disc on December 17th via Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Todd Phillips, stars Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Zazie Beetz.
The tech specs for the 4K releases include a 2160p video presentation in a variable of the 2.20:1 and 1.90:1 aspect ratios with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.20:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound. 4K and Blu-ray releases will each include a digital copy compatible with Movies Anywhere. The 4K UHD Blu-ray, 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below), and Blu-ray are available for preorder at Amazon. The 2024 animated film “Transformers One” is officially slated for releases on 4K UHD Blu-ray, 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook, and Blu-ray Disc on December 17th via Paramount Home Media Distribution. The film, produced by Michael Bay and directed by Josh Cooley, features the voice talents of Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm. It’s certainly worth noting that this film is “Certified Fresh” (by critics) and “Verified Hot” (by audiences) on Rotten Tomatoes.
The tech specs for the 4K and Blu-ray have not yet been fully detailed, but it is known that the 4K release will include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 high dynamic range. The Blu-ray will be presented in a 1080p HD video presentation in 2.39:1 aspect ratio. Both releases will very likely include Dolby Atmos sound, however, that’s still yet to be fully confirmed. The 4K releases will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray counterpart.
Each of the 4K and Blu-ray releases will include a digital copy. The 4K UHD Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook are now available for preorder at Amazon. However, there is not a preorder listing yet for the Blu-ray on Amazon. Also, you can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook available for preorder at retailer Walmart, again with no Blu-ray listing yet available, but stay tuned for an update.
