1963 film Donovan’s Reef comes to 4K in April

The 1963 film “Donovan’s Reef” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on April 15th via KL Studio Classics. The film was directed by John Ford. It starred John WayneLee Marvin, and Jack Warden. The film also featured Cesar RomeroDorothy Lamour, and Elizabeth Allen. Additionally, Dick ForanMarcel DalioMike Mazurki, and Edgar Buchanan were part of the cast.

The movie has received a new master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10) and audio has yet to be announced. Stay tuned for an update regarding the audio. It will come on a BD-100 disc. The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.

It’s also worth noting. There will be a Blu-ray Disc Special Edition released on April 15th. This will also be via KL Studio Classics. Disney’s Moana 2 on 4K and Blu-ray in March

The 2024 film “Moana 2” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook and Blu-ray Disc on March 18th via Disney. The film was co-directed by David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller. The voice cast includes Auli’i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson , Hualalai Chung, Rose Matafeo, Alan Tudyk, and Jemaine Clement.

The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.00:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-66 disc. The film was directed and co-written by Leigh Whannell and it was produced by Jason Blum (of Blumhouse). The film stars Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, and Sam Jaeger.

The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-66 disc. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-50 disc. The 1982 film “Gandhi” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on April 29th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film, a winner of 8 Academy Awards, was directed by Richard Attenborough. It starred Ben Kingsley, Candice Bergen, Edward Fox, John Gielgud, Trevor Howard, John Mills, and Martin Sheen.

The movie has received a restoration from the original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10) form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and 2.0 stereo lossless sound. The motion picture is split across two 4K discs. The 4-disc release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. It will also come with a digital copy of the film compatible with Movies Anywhere.

UPDATED: the 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook is now available for preorder at Amazon.

NOTE: This film has been available on 4K UHD Blu-ray before. It was previously included with the “Columbia Classics 4K UHD Ultra HD Collection: Volume 1” box set. However, this individual release will be the first time that Dolby Vision is included with the physical media release. Up until now, it has only been included digitally.
