RUMOR: “Superman” 1978 coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray likely stateside by November

superman4k.jpg
The 4K UHD Blu-ray release of the 1978 Richard Donner directed film “Superman”  is starting to seem a lot more like a reality. However, it is still (currently) a RUMOR, so take it “with a grain of salt” so-to-speak, and wait for an official announcement, as I always remind you. The film, starring Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder, it seems is apparently coming to Germany as a 4K UHD Blu-ray release. It was first reported by a German website as you’ll see translated below.

“Superman”: DC film adaptation of 1978 for the first time on Ultra HD Blu-ray

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is expected to release the Superman adaptation with Christopher Reeve on 4K Blu-ray in early November; Amazon already has the title in its assortment.

It’s not official yet, but according to current planning, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release “Superman” (also known as “Superman: The Movie”) from 1978 on 8 November on Ultra HD Blu-ray. bring out ray. Amazon has already listed the title.

Now, keep in mind that this is a translation to English from German via Google Translate. It does give us an idea of what the specifics are over there in Germany for that release. They seem to have seen a November 8th release date on the Amazon.de listing earlier. The German Amazon listing is still up, HERE, and even states that it is the 1978 film, it is a 4K UHD Blu-ray, and all. It just no longer has that release date (as pictured below).

So, with this new information having come to light, I’m going to speculate a bit here, and I’ll say that we can likely expect this to come to 4K UHD Blu-ray stateside by at least November. The film originally hit theaters on December 15th, 1978, so it should be on home video by then to celebrate its 40th Anniversary. Let’s hope Warner decides to finally officially announce the title is in the works, and perhaps give the release date and such as well very soon. Stay tuned for further updates!

The 2018 Fangoria presented sequel “Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich” starring Thomas Lennon is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on September 25th, according to an early alert to retailers. It would seem the release will be distributed by RLJE Films (formerly Image Entertainment). Tech specs and bonus materials for both releases have not yet been detailed but stay tuned for any updates. The releases will both come in the form of “combo pack” (judging from the cover art) and will include the film on previous formats. Meaning, the 4K will get a Blu-ray, and the Blu-ray will get a DVD of the film included. The 4K UHD Blu-ray is available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon, while the Blu-ray is not yet listed. Again, stay tuned for updates.

RUMOR: “Hook” starring Robin Williams coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in November

hook1991

If you manage to be looking around Amazon‘s French site using something like Google Translate (or speak French) you might have noticed that they are listing something very cool coming to the 4K UHD Blu-ray format there, and very likely is coming here (Stateside) later this year. Now, keep in mind that this is only a RUMOR at this point, but it would seem that the 1991 Steven Spielberg directed film “Hook” starring the late Robin Williams is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray (there in France) on November 7th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. No further info, cover art, or anything is really available now at this point in time. The story will be updated when it develops any further. I’d speculate personally that we could see this sometime before or around the holiday season, here in the United States (and Canada).

EDITORIAL NOTE: As with all RUMORS reported here on the site, I always suggest you take these with a “grain of salt” so-to-speak, and remind you that you should wait until you see us or the studio directly issue an announcement regarding the release to take it as 100% factual. Lastly, thanks to our reader Jason for this news tip via Twitter.

Now, take this “with a grain of salt” so-to-speak, as this is a film that just hit theaters and at this time is considered a very early RUMOR.
