Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” comes to 4K in June

The 2019 Bong Joon Ho directed film Parasite is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on June 2nd, via Universal, according to retailers. The film, winner of 4 Academy Awards (including Best Picture), was previously released on Blu-ray earlier this year. The tech specs for the 4K release includes a video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and HDR10+ forms of High Dynamic Range and Korean Dolby Atmos sound on a BD-100 (100 gigabytes disc). The release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart included as well as a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray listed for preorder over at Amazon. The bonus material, comprised of a Q&A with Director Bong Joon Ho, will be identical to the previous Blu-ray but will also be presented in 4K resolution on the 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc. It’s lastly worth noting that The Criterion Collection also has plans to release this film in their collection on the Blu-ray format at some point later this year. “Columbia Classics” Volume 1 set on 4K in June

BREAKING: Six well-known films have all been restored in 4K and will be getting an exclusive release on the 4K UHD Blu-ray format via what is being called the Columbia Classics: 4K Ultra HD Collection – Volume 1 box set, which is set for a June 16th release, via Sony. The set, a limited-edition collection, will be literally limited with only what is said to be fewer than 8 thousand units produced — as quoted below from the press release:

The six films in the COLUMBIA CLASSICS 4K ULTRA HD COLLECTION are only available on 4K Ultra HD disc within this special collector’s set with a limited-edition run of fewer than 8,000 units in the U.S

This 4K box set includes the following films:

  • “A League of Their Own” (1992)
    • directed by Penny Marshall
  • “Dr. Stranglelove: Or How…” (1964)
    • directed by Stanley Kubrick
  • “Gandhi” (1982)
    • directed by Richard Attenborough
  • “Jerry Maguire” (1996)

UPDATE: I have now talked with the folks at Sony and have the full details on this release for you, via an extremely lengthy press release that you’ll be able to read in its entirety, further below after the break. The tech specs for the films include 4K video with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and a variety of Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio sound mixes on the six different films. Lastly, regarding tech specs, it is worth noting that the film Gandhi will actually receive Dolby Vision and HDR10, in terms of video. Pixar film “Onward” comes to 4K and Blu-ray May

The 2020 Disney / Pixar film “Onward” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on May 19th, via Disney, according to retailers. The film, directed by Dan Scanlon, features the voice talents of Tom HollandChris PrattJulia Louis-Dreyfus, Kyle Bornheimer, Mel Rodriguez, Lena Waithe, Ali Wong, Octavia Spencer, Tracey Ullman, Wilmer Valderrama, and George Psarras. The tech specs and bonus materials for the 4K and Blu-ray haven’t been officially announced yet, but, judging from the Disney+ and digital versions of the film, you can expect it to receive HDR10 on the 4K release and Dolby Atmos sound. It’s likely the Blu-ray will only get a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 mix, instead of Atmos sound, but we’ll see. Both the 4K and Blu-ray releases will come in the form of “combo pack” meaning that they’ll include their Blu-ray / DVD counterparts (accordingly) and each receives a digital code (copy) of the film. Stay tuned for updates on the official tech specs, bonus materials, and as to when these titles get listed over at Amazon. You can, however, now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and the Blu-ray listed for preorder over at retailers Best Buy and Target. Also worth mentioning is the fact that each one of those retailers will be getting an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray release of the film. Best Buy will be getting a 4K SteelBook (pictured below) and Target will be getting a Limited Edition Gallery Book on 4K (also pictured below).

2020 film “Vivarium” coming to Blu-ray in May

The 2020 film Vivarium starring Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on May 12th, via Lionsgate. This film was directed by Lorcan Finnegan. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include 1080p HD video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. UPDATE: There’s now a preorder listing available for this Blu-ray over at Amazon. The bonus materials set to be included are listed below.

Vin Diesel as “Bloodshot” on 4K and Blu-ray

The 2020 film “Bloodshot” starring Vin Diesel is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on May 5th, according to multiple retailer listings, via Sony. The film, based on the comic book of the same title & directed by Dave Wilson, co-stars Eiza GonzálezSam Heughan, Toby Kebbell, Talulah Riley, Lamorne Morris, and Guy Pearce. As this hasn’t been officially announced yet, there’s no word yet on the tech specs or bonus materials but stay tuned for an update. The 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray will both come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray getting a DVD, and each including a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find both the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray listed for preorder over at Amazon, as well as over at retailers Best Buy and Target – where the release date is listed. The 2020 Blumhouse produced horror film Fantasy Island is officially heading to Blu-ray Disc on May 12th, via Sony. The film, produced by Jason Blum and directed by Jeff Wadlow, stars Michael Peña, Maggie Q, Lucy Hale, Austin Stowell, Jimmy O. Yang, Portia Doubleday, Ryan Hansen, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Mike Vogel, and Michael Rooker. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include 1080p HD video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound. The release will include both the UNRATED and theatrical versions of the film. You can now find the Blu-ray listed for preorder over at Amazon and at retailer Best Buy. The release will include a digital code (copy) of the film.
