1980 film Popeye with Robin Williams on Blu-ray December

The 1980 film adaption of Popeye starring the late Robin Williams is making its debut to Blu-ray Disc on December 1st, via Paramount, to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The film, directed by Robert Altman and based on the characters created by E.C. Segar, co-starred Shelley Duvall (as “Olive Oyl”), Paul L. Smith (as “Bluto”),  Ray Walston, Paul Dooley, Richard Libertini, Donald Moffat, and Wesley Ivan Hurt. Tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed, but stay tuned for an update on that. UPDATE: The Blu-ray is now available for preorder over at Amazon.

The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film, as well as the bonus material detailed below.

1996 film Crash gets a Criterion Blu-ray in December

The 1996 NC-17 rated film “Crash” from director David Cronenberg is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc via The Criterion Collection on December 1st. The film, based on the novel by J.G. Ballard, starred James SpaderHolly HunterElias Koteas, Deborah Kara Unger, Rosanna Arquette, and Peter MacNeill. The motion picture has received a 4K restoration that was “supervised by director of photography Peter Suschitzky,” and “approved by director David Cronenberg.” Tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD presentation in the 1.66:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 that has also been approved by the film’s director. The Criterion Collection Blu-ray is now available for preorder over at Amazon. Space Ghost 1966 TV series on Blu-ray in October

The 1966 TV show Space Ghost & Dino Boy: The Complete Series is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on October 13th via Warner Archive. The show, created by Alex Toth, ran from 1966 through 1968 for a total of 20 episodes. Space Ghost & Dino Boy featured the voice talent of Gary Owens (as “Space Ghost”), amongst others. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.33:1 aspect ratio with a Mono sound mix (likely in DTS-HD Master Audio, although not specified). The release will span across two BD-50 (50 gigabytes) Blu-ray Discs.

The Office: The Complete Series on Blu-ray November

Well, it’s about damn time! That’s what she said. But seriously, “The Office: The Complete Series” is finally getting a Blu-ray Disc box set of all nine seasons for the first time on November 10th via Universal, according to retailers. The tech specs and bonus materials for the box set have not yet been detailed, but they should contain 1080p HD video in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound, as found on previous seasons that appeared on the format. There’s no word yet if the release will come with a digital copy of the series, as Season 8 on the format did. All we know really for certain so far is that release date, that it’ll contain all of the seasons, including some very nice artwork (pictured above), and that the set on Blu-ray is now available for preorder over at Amazon.

The now cult-classic TV show ran for a total of 9 seasons, for 188 episodes, from 2005 through 2013 on the NBC network. The show, a remake of sorts of the British TV series of the same title, was adapted by Greg Daniels. The Office (U.S.) starred Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, Jenna FischerJohn Krasinski, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Angela Kinsey, Phyllis Smith, Kate Flannery, Creed Bratton, Oscar Nuñez, B.J. V for Vendetta officially on 4K UHD Blu-ray in November

The 2005 film adaptation of “V for Vendetta” starring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 3rd, via Warner. Some of you may remember me reporting this last month, and as of today, it has been confirmed via a press release from the studio. The film, directed by James McTeigue & based on the graphic novel (of the same title), had a screenplay adapted by The Wachowskis — Lana Wachowski & Lilly Wachowski — both best known for writing & directing “The Matrix” (1999). The film co-starred Stephen ReaStephen FryRupert GravesTim Pigott-Smith, and John Hurt.

Tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The movie has received a new scan according to the press release, quoted below.

“The 4K UHD release of V for Vendetta is from a new scan of the original camera negative.”

The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will receive its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and come with a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. Amazon will be getting an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray Giftset (as pictured below) which is now available for preorder, oddly enough.

Retailer Best Buy will also be getting an exclusive release of the film in the form of a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below), which is now available for preorder.
