The Original Kings of Comedy on Blu-ray in November

– Amazon Commissions Earned –

The 2000 stand-up comedy concert film The Original Kings of Comedy will be making its debut to the Blu-ray Disc format on November 10th via Paramount. The film, directed by Spike Lee, featured stand-up routines from Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, Cedric The Entertainer, and the late great Bernie Mac. It also featured glimpses into their lives backstage, in a documentary-type style.

This release will come in the form of a MOD (manufactured-on-demand) BD-ROM Blu-ray Disc if you order it via Amazon. However, if you find this on store shelves elsewhere or online elsewhere, it will be a pressed Blu-ray Disc. I was given this heads-up regarding the release as well as a very short bit of info as to what all went into the remastering of the film for this release. You can find a quote regarding that below.

“[This film was] recently remastered in HD, and was supervised by the film’s producer. It’s a BD-ROM now on Amazon MOD and pressed everywhere else. More Paramount catalog titles will be done this way and are coming very soon to Blu-ray.”

UPDATE: The tech specs for the release will include a 1080p HD video presentation in the original 1.78:1 aspect ratio with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound mix.

You can now find this film’s debut to Blu-ray available for preorder now over at Amazon. At the time of writing, no other retailers are listing the Blu-ray just yet but stay tuned for an update. Lastly, regarding bonus materials, here’s what Amazon lists regarding the product, which makes a nice mention of the film being on the format for the very first-time as well as gives us a hint of what to expect in terms of extras.

“FOR THE FIRST TIME ON BLU-RAY! FEATURING BONUS SCENES AND MUSIC VIDEO. Director Spike Lee, captures with a live audience, the massive hit “Kings of Comedy” tour over two rousing nights in Charlotte, North Carolina. Featuring the individual talents of Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, Cedric The Entertainer, and Bernie Mac, THE ORIGINAL KINGS OF COMEDY—shot with style, heart, humor, and candid behind-the-scenes activities—is a front-row seat to the sold-out cultural phenomenon.”

The Stooge with Martin and Lewis on Blu-ray November

– Commissions Earned –

The 1951 film The Stooge starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis is coming to Blu-ray Disc for the very first time on November 10th via Paramount. The film, directed by Norman Taurog, co-starred Polly Bergen, Marion Marshall, and Frances Bavier.

UPDATE: The tech specs for the release will include a 1080p HD video presentation in Black & White and in the 1.33:1 aspect ratio with a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono sound mix.

As far as I know, no bonus materials will be included with this release. However, I could be wrong. You can now find the debut of the film to Blu-ray Disc available for preorder over at Amazon. Below, you can find what Amazon has up about this on the product list.

“THE MARTIN & LEWIS CLASSIC FOR THE FIRST TIME ON BLU-RAY! Money isn’t everything and Bill Miller is the guy who keeps proving it. He’s carved out a modest niche as a singer in the off-off-vaudeville circuit. But suddenly his act is big news. Well, not just his act. He’s now teamed with a manic comic. Yet Bill can’t admit that the reason for his success is The Stooge. One sings, one clowns…sounds like anyone you know? Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis bring their straight man-funnyman act to this show biz story set in the 1930s. Songs include “Who’s Your Little Whozis?” and comedy moments include just about any time Lewis is on screen. Don’t miss the fun when he turns Dino’s “Just One More Chance” into a zany production number of rising curtains, falling sandbags, and a flying comic-on-a-rope. You’ll be glad to give it more than one chance!”

The Odd Couple II makes its Blu-ray debut November

– Commissions Earned –

The 1998 sequel The Odd Couple II is making its Blu-ray Disc debut on November 10th via Paramount. The film, based on Neil Simon‘s screenplay & directed by Howard Deutch, starred Jack LemmonWalter MatthauRichard Riehle, Jonathan Silverman, Lisa Waltz, Mary Beth Peil, Christine Baranski, and Jean Smart.

UPDATE: The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD presentation in the original 2.35:1 aspect ratio with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound mix.

No word yet on the bonus materials, if any set to be included on the release, but it would seem there aren’t any mentioned in the description (below). You can now find the Blu-ray Disc available to preorder over at Amazon. Speaking of Amazon here’s what they have listed as the item description, where it mentions the film will be making its Blu-ray debut as by this:

“FOR THE FIRST TIME ON BLU-RAY! It’s a comedy celebration as Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau reunite to reprise their roles as Felix and Oscar in Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple II. The times may have changed, but thankfully not the traits that make ex-roomies Felix Ungar (Lemmon) and Oscar Madison (Matthau) the all-time perfect mismatch. Oscar is still an uncompromising slob who thinks a brown sock and a black sock is close enough. Felix is still a fussbudget who can’t pass a spice rack without arranging it alphabetically. After years of going their separate ways, the two are together again, en route to the wedding of Oscar’s son to Felix’s daughter. They’ve got the map, the rental car, a tankful of Simon’s comedy zingers, and they’re getting 1,000 smiles to the gallon.”
