1956 film The Court Jester with Danny Kaye on Blu-ray

The 1956 film “The Court Jester” starring Danny Kaye is officially making its debut to Blu-ray Disc on January 26th, 2021, via Paramount Presents. The release will be spine #13 in the Paramount Presents series. The film, directed by Melvin Frank and Norman Panama, co-starred Glynis Johns, Basil Rathbone, Angela Lansbury, Cecil Parker, John Carradine, Mildred Natwick, and Alan Napier. The film has received a new 6K restoration which you can read a slight bit about below.

“Originally released in 1956, THE COURT JESTER was shot in Paramount’s trademark “VistaVision” widescreen format, capturing a grander scope of information on the film negative. For this new restoration, the original negative was scanned at 6K and one of the “separation masters” was also scanned and recombined with the negative scans to address color fading in the negative.  The result is an incredibly vibrant picture that faithfully captures the colors and textures of Edith Head’s sensational costumes and Hal Pariera’s sparkling art direction.”

The tech specs for the release include a 1080p presentation in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio with a Mono DTS-HD Master Audio sound mix. The release will come with a digital copy of the film included. You can now find the upcoming Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. This, like all of the Paramount Presents releases, will come with a fold-out poster for the film in the slipcover packaging (as pictured below).

The film, written by, directed by, and starring Jim Cummings, co-stars Riki Lindhome, Chloe East, and the late Robert Forster in his final role. 2020 film Mulan comes to 4K and Blu-ray on November 10

The 2020 live-action film adaptation of “Mulan” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on November 10th via Disney. Yes, that’s next week and comes with very little notice but that’s become expected of Disney. The film, directed by Niki Caro, starred Yifei Liu, Donnie Yen, Li Gong, Jet Li, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Tzi Ma, and Rosalind Chao. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 4K presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray release include a 1080p HD presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 sound. Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that the 4K will include the Blu-ray Disc counterparts, the Blu-ray will include the DVD counterpart, and each will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. You will not likely be able to find this 4K UHD Blu-ray or Blu-ray release, from Disney, available over at Amazon but stay tuned for an update on that at a later point. In the meantime, you can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at retailers Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. The Blu-ray is also available for preorder now over at retailers Best Buy and Target. The 2020 film “Tenet” starring John David Washington is officially coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on December 15th, via Warner. The film, written and directed by Christopher Nolan, co-stars Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Martin Donovan, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kenneth Branagh, and Michael Caine.

The 4K UHD Blu-ray will arrive as a “combo pack” meaning that it will include a Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. The Blu-ray release (pictured below) will also come as a “combo pack” and include a DVD counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p presentation with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound mix. The Blu-ray release should include a 1080p presentation and also should contain a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound mix.
