Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar comes to Blu-ray in April

The 2021 film “Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar” is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on April 6th via Lionsgate. The film, directed by Josh Greenbaum, stars Kristen Wiig, Annie Mumolo, Jamie Dornan, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Phyllis Smith, Ian Gomez, Damon Wayans Jr., and Vanessa Bayer. It’s certainly worth noting, that at the time of writing this, the film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes. The tech specs for the Blu-ray release include a 1080p HD video presentation in the original 2.39:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will come with its DVD counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. The bonus materials set to be included with this release are listed below.

Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman remastered 4K in March

The 2016 Zack Snyder film “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in the “Ultimate Edition” has been remastered and approved by the director and will be receiving a new 4K UHD Blu-ray release on March 23rd via Warner Archive, according to numerous retailers now. I had been reporting this as a RUMOR thread over on Twitter for a day or so and it’s becoming apparent that I was right. Still, this should be only considered a rumor until the title gets an official announcement from the studio [Warner], Warner Archive, or via Zack Snyder. The remastered version of this film will include the 183-minute “Ultimate Edition” with some color corrections and most importantly the correct 1.43:1 IMAX aspect ratio on those scenes and the shifts to and from the 2.35:1 aspect ratio.

That said, it should come with the very same HDR10 and Dolby Atmos found on the previous 4K UHD Blu-ray release of the film, but nothing as of now has been officially confirmed. You can find the newly restored version of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition” on 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon as well as at retailers Deep Discount and Target, and Walmart. The release will come with just a 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc and a digital code (copy) of the film included. There’s no word if bonus materials will be included with this release of the film or not. Considering that it doesn’t appear to include the Blu-ray, it would mean they would have to all be housed on the 4K disc. So, stay tuned regarding that when this hopefully gets a full official announcement and/or confirmation soon.

UPDATE #1: Well, I think we can consider it official now, folks, just lacking a press release, as the 4K UHD Blu-ray is now listed over on WBShop.com (as Warner Archive) as shown below.

UPDATE #2: It’s official. The “Batman v Superman” official Twitter account just shared a video and announced the release date that we all had been seeing and I was telling you from the start. This video is very much work checking out as it will show you how the aspect ratio shift from 2.35:1 to real IMAX 1.43:1 will work. This also confirms some color correction as well. See the tweet here (or embedded below).

EDITORIAL NOTE: This will mark the very FIRST 4K UHD Blu-ray release from Warner Archive if this turns out to be true. It’s pretty obvious that it is, so let’s now consider that Warner’s line of home video releases will include 4K titles in the future via the Warner Archives. I’ll be the first to say welcome to the 4K physical release scene, Warner Archive. And, until further information about this release comes along: “That’s All, Folks!!”

2020 film Promising Young Woman on Blu-ray in March

The 2020 film “Promising Young Woman” starring Carey Mulligan is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on March 16th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, written & directed by Emerald Fennell, co-stars Bo Burnham, Alison Brie, Adam Brody, Clancy Brown, Jennifer Coolidge, Sam Richardson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Connie Britton, Laverne Cox, and Molly Shannon. This movie has been well-received by both critics and audiences and it is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes — at the time of writing this. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround sound. You can now find the Blu-ray listed for preorder over at Amazon. Dirty Dancing gets 4K SteelBook release as Best Buy exclusive

The 1987 film “Dirty Dancing” will be getting an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release over at retailer Best Buy on April 27th, via Lionsgate. First off, let me state that this will mark the 4K physical debut of the film and it (as mentioned) will be exclusive to only that retailer and that no “standard” release on 4K UHD Blu-ray is at this time planned — it would seem. The film, directed by Emile Ardolino, starred Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey, Jerry Orbach, Cynthia Rhodes, Jack Weston, Jane Brucker, and Kelly Bishop. The tech specs for the 4K release have yet to be officially detailed by the studio (Lionsgate) but stay tuned for an update on that.

You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook available for preorder over at Best Buy, where it as of today states “[Only @ Best Buy]” in its description — confirming its exclusivity to that retailer. There’s also no word yet on the bonus materials set to be included with the release, but it is known (from the artwork, pictured here) that the release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. 2003 Tim Burton directed film Big Fish comes to 4K in May

The 2003 film “Big Fish” directed by Tim Burton is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 4th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film, based on the novel by Daniel Wallace, starred Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lange, Helena Bonham Carter, Alison Lohman, Missi Pyle, Steve Buscemi, and Danny DeVito. This movie has received a new 4K remaster from the original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p presentation in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound as well as the original 5.1 lossless theatrical sound mix (in DTS-HD Master Audio). The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly’s Gold on Blu-ray May

The 1994 sequel “City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly’s Gold” starring Billy Crystal is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc, for the first time, on May 25th via Shout Factory‘s Shout Select line. The film, directed by Paul Weiland, co-starred Daniel Stern, Jon Lovitz, and Jack Palance. The tech specs for the release should include a 1080p HD presentation in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio and uncompressed sound, likely in both 5.1 and 2.0 configurations. Stay tuned for if and when those tech specs get officially detailed regarding the sound. The Blu-ray can now be found available for preorder over at Amazon and also directly via Shout! Factory.
