1999 film Mystery Men comes to 4K in November

The 1999 comedy “Mystery Men” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 22nd via KL Studio Classics.  The film, directed by Kinka Usher, starred Ben StillerJaneane Garofalo, William H. Macy, Kel Mitchell, Paul Reubens, Hank Azaria, Wes Studi, Greg Kinnear, and Geoffrey Rush.  

The movie has received a new 4K scan from the original camera negative.  The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range as well as DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and 2.0 Stereo lossless sound mixes, on a BD-100 disc.  Tech specs for the Blu-ray included in the “combo pack” feature 1080p HD video in 1.85:1 aspect ratio [from the new 4K scan] as well as DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and 2.0 stereo sound mixes, on a BD-50 disc.

Bullet Train arrives on 4K and Blu-ray in October

The 2022 film “Bullet Train” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on October 18th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by David Leitch, stars Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Bad Bunny, Michael Shannon, Logan Lerman, Zazie Beetz, and Sandra Bullock.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.  Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in 2.39:1 aspect with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound.  Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting its Blu-ray Disc counterpart, the Blu-ray getting its DVD counterpart, and each including a digital code (copy) of the film compatible with Movies Anywhere.

48 Hrs. and Another 48 Hrs. on 4K in December

The film “48 Hrs.” (1982) and its sequel “Another 48 Hrs.” (1990) are both coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 6th via Paramount Home Entertainment, according to retailers.  “48 Hrs.” and “Another 48 Hrs.” were both directed by Walter Hill, and starred Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte.  Also, a “48 Hrs. 2-Movie Collection” (pictured above) with both films will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on the same day, December 6th.

These transfers for each film were approved by the director Walter Hill.  The tech specs for the releases include 2160p video presentations in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range.  It’s likely that both films will receive Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless sound mixes, although it has not been confirmed.  All of these releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart(s) included along with a digital copy (code) for each film.  Bonus materials for the films have not yet been detailed but should be identical to the previous Paramount Presents Blu-ray releases.

The 1979 film “Escape from Alcatraz” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 8th via KL Studio Classics.  The film, directed by Don Siegel, starred Clint Eastwood, Patrick McGoohan, Roberts Blossom, Jack Thibeau, Paul Benjamin, Larry Hankin, and Fred Ward.

Coraline and ParaNorman on 4K this December

The Laika company‘s stop-motion animated films “Coraline” and “ParaNorman” will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in both standard and SteelBook forms on December 13th via Shout! Factory.  The films are briefly individually highlighted below.

“Coraline” from 2009 was directed by , best known for also directing “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993).  Selick adapted the screenplay from a book written by Neil Gaiman.  The film featured the voice talents of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, John Hodgman, Ian McShane, and Keith David.  Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.

“ParaNorman” from 2012 was co-directed by Chris Butler and Sam Fell.  Chris Butler also wrote the screenplay.  The film featured the voice talents of Kodi Smit-McPhee, Tucker Albrizzi, Anna Kendrick, Casey Affleck, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Leslie Mann, Jeff Garlin, Alex Borstein, and John Goodman.  Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.

Both of these 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that they each will also include their Blu-ray Disc counterpart.  The bonus materials will include all of the previous Blu-ray extras from the latest editions as well as a booklet [for each].  Also, the 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBooks (pictured further above) each feature new hand-drawn artwork.

Chechik, starred Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, Juliette Lewis, Johnny Galecki, Randy Quaid, Miriam Flynn, John Randolph, Diane Ladd, E.G. Marshall, Doris Roberts, Mae Questel, William Hickey, Nicholas Guest, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound as well as 2.0 Stereo (presumably also lossless).  The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will come with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as include a digital code (copy) of the film which is compatible with Movies Anywhere.
