Universal has officially announced plans to bring the film “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” to 4K UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray Disc and Blu-ray 3D on September 18th. This news comes this morning in an official announcement from the studio. Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include full 4K at 2160p in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with both Dolby Vision and HDR10 varieties of High Dynamic Range and DTS: X sound. The Blu-ray Disc and Blu-ray 3D releases tech specs include full HD at 1080p in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and DTS: X sound as well. All three versions will be available in a “combo pack” and include a Digital Copy of the film. They all are now available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon.
The bonus materials set to be included on the release are pretty lengthy, so they can be found further below, after the break.
This has now been officially confirmed today by HalloweenMovies.com (official website). The package cover art can be found above and disc art can be found below. It appears the release will get both Dolby Vision and HDR10 varieties of High Dynamic Range, while we only see a Dolby audio logo on the disc. That leaves me thinking it will not receive a Dolby Atmos or DTS: X atmospheric mix, and instead likely a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 or 7.1 mix.
Below, after the break you can find the disc art and more of my original rumor post about this coming to 4K, which turned out to be true.
So, I’ve let this develop a bit more so it’s not even a “rumor” so much as it is, at this point, a very exciting fact. The original classic 1978 Richard Donner directed film “Superman“ starring the late Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder is being restored currently at Warner in 4K. Not only are the visual elements of the original film negatives being remastered (restored) but also the sound mix (as of a 4 hours ago) has been confirmed to be getting remastered as well. All of of this wonderful news comes from the Twitter account of CapedWonder Superman Imagery. You’ll find their tweets below and all credits for photos go respectively to them. This could see a possible 4K UHD Blu-ray release later this year, it’s pretty much a given. There’s no way that Warner would just opt to release this only on 2K (Blu-ray Disc), when so much effort is being put into this 4K restoration. Also, did I mention that the film is celebrating its 40th anniversary of sorts this year? Yeah, that makes me think we could see it come to both 4K and Blu-ray later in the year. Stay tuned for more updates both here and on twitter. Below, after the break, you’ll find some select tweets from CapedWonder Superman Imagery on their twitter (as mentioned above).
This weekend at the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) we got news that the 1992 original “Batman: The Complete Animated Series” has been restored and is headed to Blu-ray Disc later this year. The exact release date is October 30th, and it’s going to be one really impressive box set, dubbed the “Deluxe Limited Edition” on Blu-ray from the folks at Warner. Here’s some rundown of the set. First off it has received restored HD video in full 1080p, and is presented in the original 1.33:1 (4×3) aspect ratio. The release will cover the span of the entire 85 episodes, 4 seasons total of the show itself, as well as include the two films. This box set is already up and available for PRE-ORDER now over at Amazon. This story is developing more, so I’ll be updating it more with more news as we get it.
LATEST UPDATE: The release date has now been pushed back from the original (10/16) date to now coming out on October 30th – as reported.
ORIGINAL UPDATE: First off a hi-res image of the packaging and contents has been released and can be found below. Click for a larger view.
Next, a press release has been issued and we now officially know that the following bonus materials will be included on the release as detailed below after the break, as they are extremely lengthy and detailed. Enjoy!
UPDATE: It now also appears that either the original 1981 film or the 2013 film (“Evil Dead”) will also be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in October as well. It’s a bit confusing at this point, and still a rumor.
According to an early alert to UK retailer Zavvi, a 4K UHD Blu-ray Steelbook is going to be released of the 1987 Sam Raimi directed film “Evil Dead II” on October 29th in the UK via StudioCanal. It’s likely we will see this 4K UHD Blu-ray release come stateside around that time, probably right before Halloween. My guess would be we will see it released by Lionsgate in the United States on either October 23rd or October 30th, as they both fall on Tuesdays and are right before Halloween. As with all “rumors” take this with a grain of salt so-to-speak until we see official confirmation. Stay tuned for further updates. This news was originally reported by Bloody Disgusting.
The HBO series “Westworld” is receiving home video release of its second season, according to an early alert to retailers. “Westworld: Season Two – The Door” is coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on December 4th via HBO (Warner). Tech specs and bonus materials have not yet been detailed by the studio, that I have seen, so stay tuned for an update on that. They should be identical to the tech specs on the first season, you would think. Just speculating there, though. The title is available now for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon on both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc. Below, after below the break, you’ll find the cover art to the Blu-ray Disc version.
Olive Films has plans to bring the 1996 film “Bound“ starring Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly, to Blu-ray Disc in a Olive Signature release on August 28th. The film was written and directed by The Wachowskis (of “Matrix” fame). The release has received a “new High-Definition digital restoration” according to the official announcement. A PRE-ORDER listing is available now over at Amazon. Bonus materials set to be included on the release are listed below.

Lastly, it’s very much worth noting that this will be a limited pressing of only 3,500 units – as stated by Olive Films.
The 2018 Matthew Ross directed film “Siberia“ starring Keanu Reeves is slated for a September 18th release to Blu-ray Disc via Lionsgate. The film received some horrible reviews during its theatrical run. In fact, it carries one of the lowest ratings on Rotten Tomatoes with just 8% (at time of writing this). Yikes! Looks like some critics were maybe quick to rush to judgement on this one? Tech specs for the release include full 1080p HD video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD 5.1 MA sound. UPDATE: This title is now available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon.
Bonus materials slated to be included on the release are amazingly complex, I’ll let you sort through this massive amount of material listed below.
- “Passion and Intrigue: Bringing Siberia to Life” Featurette
Yep, that much. Amazing studio! Further below, after the break, you’ll find the official announcement for this release.
