Thunderbolts* on 4K and Blu-ray in July

The 2025 film “Thunderbolts*” officially arrives on 4K UHD Blu-ray, 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook, and Blu-ray Disc on July 29th. The releases will be via Marvel Studios, owned and distributed by Disney. Jake Schreier directed this latest film in the “Marvel Cinematic Universe.” It stars Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Sebastian Stan, Lewis Pullman, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. It’s certainly worth noting this film is “Certified Fresh” (by critics) and “Verified Hot” (by audiences) on Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range with Dolby Atmos sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 lossless surround sound. The 4K releases will both be 2-disc “combo pack” sets with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. Both the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases will include a digital copy of the film, compatible with Movies Anywhere.

You cannot yet find the 4K UHD Blu-ray, 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook, or the Blu-ray available for preorder at Amazon. Stay tuned for an update on that.

Cowboys and Aliens on 4K UHD Blu-ray in September

The 2011 film “Cowboys & Aliens” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 17th via KL Studio Classics. The film, directed by Jon Favreau, starred Daniel CraigHarrison FordOlivia WildePaul DanoClancy BrownKeith CarradineSam RockwellAdam BeachWalter GogginsAbigail Spencer, and Wyatt Russell.

Tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with SDR (standard dynamic range) and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and DTS-HD Master 2.0 Stereo lossless sound, on a BD-100 disc. The tech specs for the Blu-ray will include a 1080p HD video presentation in 2.39:1 with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and DTS-HD Master 2.0 Stereo sound, on a BD-50 disc. The release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. The 4K disc will contain the theatrical cut (119 minutes) and the Blu-ray will feature the “Extended Cut” (135 minutes).

The 4K UHD Blu-ray will NOT include any form of high dynamic range and the folks at KL Studio Classics have discussed this choice on social media, specifically on X, as quoted below.

“So before everyone asks, the master was created from the original DI master, we tried to create a HDR/Dolby Vision master, but ran into many issues that could not be resolved, we dropped the Dolby Vision to see if it would make a difference, but it didn’t. So our 2 choices were to either release it on 4K using a UHD SDR master or cancel the release altogether, we think we made the right choice.”

2024 Horror film Night Swim on Blu-ray in April

The 2024 horror film “Night Swim” is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on April 9th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, produced by Jason Blum & James Wan and directed by Bryce McGuire, stars, Wyatt Russell, Kerry Condon, Amélie Hoeferle, and Gavin Warren.

The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 lossless surround sound on a BD-50 disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with its DVD counterpart along with a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the Blu-ray Disc available for preorder at retailers Amazon and Walmart. The bonus materials set to be included with the release are listed below.

21 Jump Street and sequel both on 4K in September

The films 21 Jump Street (2012) and the sequel 22 Jump Street (2014) are both officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 15th, via Sony. Both of these movies, directed by Phil LordChristopher Miller, starred Jonah HillChanning Tatum, and Ice Cube. Tech specs for each film include a 2160p 4K presentation in the 2.40:1 and 2.39:1 aspect ratios with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range as well as Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound.

J.J. Abrams produced “Overlord” on 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc in February

The J.J. Abrams produced film “Overlord” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on February 19th, via Paramount. The film, directed by Julius Avery, includes a cast of Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, Mathilde Ollivier, Pilou Asbæk, John Magaro, Iain De Caestecker, Jacob Anderson, and Dominic Applewhite.

Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video presented in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with both Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The technical specifications for the Blu-ray release include 1080p video presented in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound.
