1987 film Full Metal Jacket on 4K in September

The 1987 film Full Metal Jacket directed by Stanley Kubrick is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 22nd, via Warner. The film starred Matthew ModineVincent D’Onofrio, Adam Baldwin, Dorian Harewood, Kevyn Major Howard, Arliss Howard, Ed O’Ross, John Terry, Kieron Jecchinis, and the late R. Lee Ermey. Tech specs for the release (according to the back art) include a 2160p presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio (presumably) with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound. It will be a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film. You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray release of the film listed as available for preorder over at Amazon. It’s totally worth mentioning that there will be an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook available for the film over at retailer Best Buy (pictured below) which is now listed and should be a functional preorder listing soon.

Rick and Morty Season 4 on Blu-ray September

The [adult swim] TV series Rick and Morty: Season 4 is coming to Blu-ray Disc on September 22nd, via Warner. The show, which premiered in 2013, was created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland. Aside from Justin Roiland (as both Rick and Morty), the show features the regular voice talents of Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer, and Sarah Chalke. Tech specs for all 10 episodes of the fourth season of the show on Blu-ray include a 1080p HD presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround sound. The releases, yes plural, will come with a digital code (copy) of the entire season. Speaking of releases, it is certainly worth noting that there will also be a SteelBook Blu-ray available of this season, non-exclusive to any specific retailer. Zack Snyder directed film 300 on 4K in October

It appears that the 2006 Zack Snyder directed film 300 starring Gerard Butler is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray, via Warner, according to an early retail listing. The film, based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller & Lynn Varley, co-starred Lena Headey, Dominic West, David Wenham, Vincent Regan, Michael Fassbender, and Rodrigo Santoro. Tech specs for the release include a 2160p 4K presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include both its Blu-ray counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray listed and available for preorder over at Amazon. The studio has yet to officially announce this title, to my knowledge but let’s just say it’s pretty much more than a rumor when I have the back package art to look at. “Sherlock Holmes” films on 4K in September

The Guy Ritchie directed films “Sherlock Holmes” (2009) and “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” (2011) starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are both coming to the 4K UHD Blu-ray format on September 1st, via Warner, according to retailers. Neither the tech specs and bonus materials for each release have yet been detailed, but stay tuned for an update on that. It is however known (from the art) that the releases will both come in the form of “combo pack” meaning they’ll both get their Blu-ray counterpart included as well as a digital copy of the film. Right now you can find both films on 4K UHD Blu-ray listed for preorder over at retailer Best Buy. You can also find just the first film on 4K available for preorder over at retailer Target. Lastly, you cannot yet find these films for available preorder over at Amazon but stay tuned for a definite update on that.

RUMOR: “The Goonies” comes to 4K in September

It seems we might be getting an idea of when to expect the rumored release of the 1985 Richard Donner film “The Goonies” on 4K UHD Blu-ray, via Warner. The release date previously said/reported to be coming in June, is now showing as September 1st over at retailer Best Buy for their Exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release (pictured below). Meanwhile, the preorder listings are up for the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray (featuring the artwork above) over at retailers Target and Walmart. Stay tuned for further updates regarding this release as things become a bit more detailed and official. RUMOR: “Birds of Prey” on 4K and Blu-ray May

The 2020 film “Birds of Prey” starring Margot Robbie, as “Harley Quinn”, appears to be coming to physical media on both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc, via Warner, on May 12th – according to retailers. This comes after the film was recently released early digitally when theaters closed during these strange times we currently are living in. The film, directed by Cathy Yan, co-stars Rosie PerezMary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Ella Jay Basco, Chris Messina, and Ewan McGregor. The tech specs for the releases have not yet been detailed but it is believed that the 4K will receive both HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range as well as Dolby Atmos sound. The 4K it is known from the artwork (pictured above) will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray and a digital code (copy) of the film included. So far, that’s all based on retail sources and has not yet been officially announced by the studio (Warner), making it technically a RUMOR. HBO series “The Outsider” on Blu-ray in June

The 2020 original TV series “The Outsider” in “The Complete First Season” is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on June 9th, via HBO (Warner). The series, based on the novel (of the same title) written by Stephen King, was executive produced & partially directed by Jason Bateman, and it includes a cast of Ben Mendelsohn, Bill Camp, Jeremy Bobb, Mare Winningham, Paddy Considine, Yul Vazquez, Julianne Nicholson, Marc Menchaca, and Cynthia Erivo. Tech specs for the release include 1080p HD video and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound, spanning across a 3-disc set. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the first season. You can’t yet find it available over at Amazon to preorder, but it is listed for preorder on Blu-ray now over at online retailers Deep Discount & HD Movie Source as well as retailers Target & Walmart. The 2020 film “Just Mercy” starring Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on April 14th, via Warner. The film, based on a true story & directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, co-stars Brie Larson, Rob Morgan, Rafe Spall, O’Shea Jackson Jr.Karan Kendrick, and Tim Blake Nelson. The film was rather well-received by the critics during its theatrical run, in fact, at the time of writing, this currently carries a “Certified Fresh” rating over at Rotten Tomatoes. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include HD video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Atmos sound. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film.
