1956 George Stevens western Giant on 4K in June

The 1956 Academy Award-winning western Giant directed & produced by George Stevens is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on June 21st via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, according to retailers.  The film, which won the Academy Award for “Best Director,” starred Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, James Dean, Carroll Baker, Jane Withers, Chill Wills, Mercedes McCambridge, and Dennis Hopper.

The tech specs and bonus materials for the release have yet to be announced but stay tuned for an update on that.  It is known, via the artwork (pictured above), that this release will only include the 4K disc and digital code (copy) of the film.  No Blu-ray will be included.  You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

The film itself has received a new 4K restoration in a partnership between TCM (Turner Classic Movies) and Martin Scorsese‘s The Film Foundation.  You can read all about that over at Media Play News where they have a great article on this.  This 4K version is also said to be coming to HBO Max streaming later this year.

James Wan film Malignant finally on 4K in May

It may not have initially received a release on the format, but the 2021 film Malignant is finally coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 24th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, according to retail sources.  The film, produced, co-written & directed by James Wan, stars Annabelle Wallis, Maddie Hasson, George Young, Michole Briana White, Jean Louisa Kelly, Susanna Thompson, Jake Abel, and Jacqueline McKenzie. It is most certainly worth noting, that at the time of writing, this film is “Certified Fresh” currently over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed but you can for sure expect a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with at least HDR10 (and possibly Dolby Vision) form of high dynamic range along with Dolby Atmos sound — as featured on HBO Max.  The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” (according to the artwork), meaning it will come with its Blu-ray counterpart and also include a digital code (copy) of the film.

You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon and retailer Walmart.  This should include the identical bonus material from the previous Blu-ray, listed below.

1952 musical Singin’ in the Rain comes to 4K in April

To celebrate its 70th anniversary, the 1952 classic musical Singin’ in the Rain is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray officially on April 26th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.  The film, which was co-directed by Stanley Donen & Gene Kelly, starred Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor, Debbie ReynoldsJean Hagen, Millard Mitchel, and Cyd Charisse.

UPDATE:  The tech specs include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.37:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range.  The audio here includes a remastered DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio lossless surround mix and a restored Mono DTS-HD 2.0 Master Audio lossless mix.

The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart.  A digital code (copy) of the film will be included.  Also, there’s not yet a 4K UHD Blu-ray preorder listing available over at Amazon, so stay tuned for an update on that soon.

The 2021 sequel “The Matrix Resurrections” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on March 8th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.  The film, co-written and directed by Lana Wachowski, stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Jessica Henwick, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Christina Ricci, Telma Hopkins, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Brian J. Smith, and Jada Pinkett Smith.

The tech specs for the sixth season on Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound, spanning across a 4-disc set. The animated TV show The Batman: The Complete Series is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on February 1st, 2022 via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The show, which ran from 2004 through 2008, featured the voice talents of Rino Romano, Alastair Duncan, Evan Sabara, Danielle Judovits, Kevin Michael Richardson, Mitch Pileggi, Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, and the late Adam West. The show has been fully-remastered in HD.

The tech specs for the Blu-ray, although not yet fully detailed, should presumably include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with a lossless audio mix — likely in a 2.0 Stereo configuration — spanning across a 6-disc set.
