1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory on 4K June

The 1971 film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on June 29th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film, a screen adaptation that was written by the very same author of the book (Roald Dahl), was directed by Mel Stuart. It starred Gene WilderJack AlbertsonPeter OstrumJulie Dawn Cole, Roy Kinnear, Denise Nickerson, Leonard Stone, Paris Themmen, Nora Denney, Michael Bollner, Ursula Reit, Diana Sowle, and Günter Meisner. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that you’ll get the Blu-ray Disc counterpart in addition to a digital code (copy) of the film. It is most certainly worth noting that this 1971 children’s film is still, at the time of writing this with a 90% rating, “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

UPDATE: This title was officially announced today by Warner. There’s a placeholder page now over at Amazon for the 4K UHD Blu-ray, but it’s not yet a functional preorder listing. Stay tuned to that page or here for an update. In the meantime, you can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray already listed as available for preorder (with said release date) over at retailer Target and over at online retailers Deep Discount and HD Movie Source.

The 2021 film “Godzilla vs. Kong” is officially coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on June 15th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. This latest in the “MonsterVerse” was directed by Adam Wingard. Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgård, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby BrownRebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, and Demián Bichir. It’s worth noting, at the time of writing this, the film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ forms of high dynamic range as well as Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray release include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound. Each release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that the 4K will come with its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray will come with its DVD counterpart, and each will include a digital code (copy) of the film.

UPDATE: You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray available over at Amazon, as well as at retailer Target. Stay tuned for when Amazon preorder listings go live for both versions of the film. Also, there will be a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook available as a retailer exclusive over at Best Buy. It’s not yet a functional preorder and is only stating coming soon on its placeholder page. The latest DC Universe Movie, the 2021 film “Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One” is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on June 22nd via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. This story will be split up into two parts, with “Part Two” planned for a later release. Part One was directed by Chris Palmer and it features the voice talents of Jensen Ackles (Batman / Bruce Wayne), Naya Rivera (Catwoman/Selina Kyle), Josh Duhamel (Harvey Dent), Billy Burke (James Gordon), Titus Welliver (Carmine Falcone), David Dastmalchian (Calendar Man), Troy Baker (Joker), Amy Landecker (Barbara Gordon), Julie Nathanson (Gilda Dent), Jack Quaid (Alberto), Fred Tatasciore (Solomon Grundy), Jim Pirri (Sal Maroni), and Alastair Duncan (Alfred).

EDITORIAL NOTE: Sadly, no there will not be a 4K physical release here in the United States of the film, it would appear. That’s a shame, as it aired on HBOMax earlier this year in 4K UHD with HDR10 and Dolby Vision as well as with Dolby Atmos sound. Maybe, if this film takes home some “Oscars” in the 6 categories it is nominated for, namely Best Picture, later this year, it might receive a 4K UHD Blu-ray release with all of that mentioned. One would speculate?
