Blake Edwards Pink Panther films on 4K in December

Four of the original live-action “Pink Panther” films directed by Blake Edwards are coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 16th via KL Studio Classics. This includes “The Pink Panther” (1963), “A Shot in the Dark” (1964), “The Pink Panther Strikes Again” (1976), and “Revenge of the Pink Panther” (1978). These films all starred Peter Sellers (as “Chief Inspector Clouseau”).

The first movie features a new 4K scan of the 35mm original Technirama camera negative. The other films feature new 4K scans from the 35mm original camera negative(s). The tech specs for each film include a 2160p video presentation in 2.20:1, 2.39:1, and 2.35:1 aspect ratios, in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible), with lossless 5.1 and 2.0 sound, each on a BD-100 disc. Individually, these releases will be a 2-disc “combo pack” with their Blu-ray Disc counterpart(s) included.

The 4K UHD Blu-ray releases of “The Pink Panther” (1963), “A Shot in the Dark,” “The Pink Panther Strikes Again,” and “Revenge of the Pink Panther” are now individually available for preorder at Amazon. Blu-ray Special Edition versions of these films will also be available. Additionally, you can preorder directly via the Kino Lorber website.

Stanley Kubrick film Dr. Strangelove gets a 4K in July

According to Amazon, the 1964 film “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb“ is finally getting an individual 4K UHD Blu-ray release on July 6th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The reason I say finally getting an individual release for this title is that it was previously exclusively part of the “Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection Volume 1“ released back in June of 2020, and now long OOP (out of print). The film, directed by Stanley Kubrick, starred Peter Sellers (in numerous roles), George C. Scott, Keenan Wynn, Slim Pickens, Peter Bull, James Earl Jones, Tracy Reed, and Sterling Hayden. The tech specs for the 4K release include a Black & White 2160p video presentation in the 1.66:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 as well as DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0 Mono lossless sound mixes. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the individual 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. No official announcement regarding this release has been made yet by the studio [Sony] but stay tuned for an update and confirmation on that.
