The 1987 film Lethal Weapon comes to 4K in June

The 1987 film “Lethal Weapon” on June 24th comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray & 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook. The releases come via Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. Retailers seem to confirm this information, although the studio has not officially announced the title. Richard Donner directed this film. It starred Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Other cast members included Gary Busey, Mitchell Ryan, Tom Atkins, Darlene Love, and Traci Wolfe. These 4K releases will include both the Theatrical (101 minutes) and Director’s Cut (117 minutes).

The tech specs for the 4K release(s) include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Atmos (for the Director’s Cut). The Theatrical Cut will be presented in lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo. The releases include a digital copy of the film, compatible with Movies Anywhere.

4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook

The 4K UHD Blu-ray standard release and 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook are now available for preorder at Amazon. Also, the 4K UHD Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook are available for preorder at Walmart. And the 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook is available for preorder at online retailer GRUV. The bonus materials to be included with the release are listed below.

The 1986 film Night of the Creeps gets a 4K in March

The 1986 horror film Night of the Creeps will be released on 4K UHD Blu-ray via Scream Factory on March 25th. It was written and directed by Fred Dekker and starred Jason Lively, Steve Marshall, Jill Whitlow, Wally Taylor, and Tom Atkins.

The movie has received a 4K restoration from the original camera negative approved by director Fred Dekker. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10) form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and 2.0 Stereo lossless sound. The release will come as a 3-disc “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a Blu-ray Disc with bonus materials.

Escape from New York gets 4K stateside release in May

The 1981 film Escape from New York will officially be getting a 4K UHD Blu-ray “Collector’s Edition” release on May 17th via Scream Factory in the US (United States).  The film, directed by John Carpenter, starred Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Isaac Hayes, Harry Dean Stanton, Adrienne Barbeau, and Tom Atkins.

UPDATES:  The tech specs include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and likely Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range as well as some lossless audio mix, although yet specified.  This will be using the Studiocanal 4K restoration.  It is known (via the artwork, pictured above) that this release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K getting its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.  The 4K UHD Blu-ray Collector’s Edition is now available for preorder over at Amazon.

5 Halloween films on Collector’s Edition 4K October

The first five films in the “Halloween” film franchise have all received new 2021 4K scans and are officially coming to the 4K UHD Blu-ray format in “Collector’s Edition” form individually for each on October 5th via Scream Factory. Those films getting released include the following:

The films each, as previously mentioned have all received a new 4K scan this year and the tech specs for all include a 2160p video presentation (in a variety of aspect ratios) with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and new Dolby Atmos sound mixes, as well as some additional mixes. Since things like those aspect ratios and sound mixes vary film-to-film, I’ll be letting you look at the full press release later further below.

You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray listings for each of the films over at Amazon and you can access them via their titles above. You can also find them listed over at ShoutFactory.com with some additional extras you won’t find anywhere else.

The extras included on these new 4K UHD Blu-ray Collector’s Editions for each film are pretty elaborate, spanning across multiple discs in some instances. So, once again, I’ll be providing you with the full press release and details below, after the break.

The 1990 film “Two Evil Eyes” co-directed by George A. Romero and Dario Argento is getting a 4K UHD Blu-ray release on August 24th via Blue Underground. The film featured a cast of Adrienne BarbeauHarvey Keitel, Martin Balsam, E.G. Marshall, John Amos, and Tom Atkins. Tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio from a new 4K restoration in both Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, as well as DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono sound. The new 4K restoration here came from the uncensored original camera negative.
