The 2019 documentary Apollo 11 featuring astronauts Buzz AldrinNeil Armstrong, and Michael Collins is coming to Blu-ray Disc on May 14th via Universal. The film shows never-before-seen large-format film footage from the first moon landing and was directed by Todd Douglas Miller. At the time of writing this, it carries a perfect 100% rating and is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes, a little over a month ahead of its March theatrical release.

UPDATE: Tech specs for the release include 1080p video and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, only on a BD-25 (25-gigabyte single layer Blu-ray Disc) – according to the Universal press site. It’s unknown if the aspect ratio of 2.20:1 will be how the film is presented in HD on this Blu-ray – with there being no mention yet of aspect ratio. Here’s to hoping that is a typo regarding the film not getting a lossless sound mix. The release will come with a digital copy of the film included. The Blu-ray is available for pre-order now over at Amazon and at Best Buy. The only bonus material set to be included on the release (according to the studio press site) is listed below.

Lastly, sadly there would seem to be no plans for a 4K UHD Blu-ray release of this title, which is a real shame. Perhaps if this sells well enough on Blu-ray they’ll consider doing a 4K release? Studios tend to do this type of thing these days with some new releases, especially Universal.
