1996 horror film Uncle Sam comes to 4K in June

The 1996 horror film Uncle Sam is officially coming to the 4K UHD Blu-ray format on June 21st via Blue Underground.  The film, directed by William Lustig and written by the late Larry Cohen, starred Bo Hopkins, Timothy Bottoms, Robert Forster, P.J. Soles, William Smith, and Isaac Hayes.

This comes from a new 4K restoration, as noted below.

“… UNCLE SAM in a sparkling new 25th Anniversary restoration, scanned in 4K 16-bit from the original 35mm camera negative, with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio, loaded with illuminating Extras!”

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos as well as DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound.  NOTE: This release only includes a 4K disc and not the Blu-ray Disc.

1980 film Alligator on 4K UHD Blu-ray in February

The 1980 horror film Alligator is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 22nd, 2022 via Scream Factory (Shout! Factory), in the form of a “Collector’s Edition” release. The film, directed by Lewis Teague, starred Robert Forster, Robin Riker, Michael V. Gazzo, Dean Jagger, Jack Carter, Sydney Lassick, Perry Lang, and Henry Silva.

The tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been announced, but stay tuned for an update later on. It is known that the release will come in the form of a 3-disc “combo pack” meaning you’ll get a Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as another Blu-ray likely entirely filled with extras (bonus materials). Across those, you’ll get two different cuts of the film.

It’s also worth noting that the film’s sequel Alligator II: The Mutation (1991) will be getting a Blu-ray Disc release on February 22nd, 2022 as well, via Scream Factory.

2001 David Lynch film Mulholland Dr. on 4K in November

The 2001 film Mulholland Drive is officially coming to the 4K UHD Blu-ray format on November 16th via The Criterion Collection. The film, written & directed by David Lynch, starred Naomi Watts, Laura Harring, Justin Theroux, Billy Ray Cyrus, Lori Heuring, Charles Croughwell, Mark Pellegrino, and Robert Forster.

The movie has received a 4K restoration that was supervised by David Lynch the cinematographer Peter Deming, as detailed below.

“In the 4K UHD edition: New 4K digital restoration, supervised by director David Lynch and director of photography Peter Deming, with 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack (4K UHD disc only).”

The 2020 film “The Wolf of Snow Hollow” is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on December 15th via Warner. The film, written by, directed by, and starring Jim Cummings, co-stars Riki Lindhome, Chloe East, and the late Robert Forster in his final role. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound. You cannot yet find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon, but stay tuned for an update on that. The 1982 William Lustig directed film Vigilante is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 15th via Blue Underground. The film starred Robert Forster, Fred WilliamsonRichard Bright, Rutanya Alda, Woody Strode, Joe Spinell, and Willie Colón. The film has received a new 4K restoration, specifically a “4K 16-bit from the original 35mm camera negative” according to the press release. Tech specs for the release include a 2160p presentation in 2.40:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range as well as Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, and 2.0 sound mixes. The limited edition release will come with its Blu-ray counterpart. There’s no preorder listing yet for this 4K UHD Blu-ray over at Amazon but stay tuned for an update. The film, as seen originally on Netflix, was written & directed by Vince Gilligan (creator of the show “Breaking Bad” which it follows). El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie starred Aaron PaulJonathan BanksMatt Jones, Charles Baker, Jesse Plemons, and the late Robert Forster. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include 1080p HD video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. The release will come with a DVD counterpart of the film included in the SteelBook. However, no digital copy appears to be included with the set.
