The 1990 film Ghost comes to 4K in late October

The 1990 film “Ghost” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 22nd as part of the Paramount Presents line. Previously released on Blu-ray, as spine number 8 in the series, this will come as a new “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart included along with a digital copy. The film, directed by Jerry Zucker, starred Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Tony Goldwyn, Rick Aviles, and Vincent Schiavelli. The tech specs include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless surround sound. 1955 Hitchcock film To Catch a Thief on 4K in October

The 1955 film To Catch a Thief” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 15th via Paramount Presents. The film, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starred Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Jessie Royce Landis, John Williams, Jean Martinelli, Charles Vanel, Brigitte Auber, and Georgette Anys. This movie has already been released by Paramount Presents on Blu-ray Disc back in April of 2021, as spine number 3 in the series, but this will be its debut to the 4K UHD Blu-ray format – carrying the same spine number. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless surround sound. This release will only include the 4K disc and no Blu-ray counterpart. It should perhaps include a digital copy, judging from how Paramount Presents has done things so far. Scorsese film Bringing Out the Dead on 4K in September

The 1999 dramatic thriller Bringing Out the Dead is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc (for the very first time) in a 2-disc set on September 17th via Paramount Presents (Paramount Home Entertainment). The film, directed by Martin Scorsese, starred Nicolas Cage, Patricia Arquette, John Goodman, Ving Rhames, Tom Sizemore, and Marc Anthony. The film has been newly remastered from the original camera negative, this exceptional new release was reviewed by Scorsese, cinematographer Robert Richardson, and editor Thelma Schoonmaker.” It’s certainly worth noting that the film is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Below you can get a glimpse at the full artwork for this release.

The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless sound. The release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart and include a digital copy. Once Upon A Time in the West comes to 4K in May

The 1969 Sergio Leone film “Once Upon A Time in the West” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 14th via Paramount Presents – as spine number 44 in the series. The movie, co-written by Dario Argento, starred Claudia Cardinale, Henry Fonda, Jason Robards, Charles Bronson, Gabriele Ferzetti, Woody Strode, Keenan Wynn, and Jack Elam.

UPDATE: Tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in Dolby Vision or HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround as well as a Dolby Digital Mono sound mix. This has received a new restoration as noted below (from a product description):

“Restored from the original camera negative by Paramount’s archive team, L’immagine Ritrovata and The Film Foundation. Special thanks to Martin Scorsese for his consultation on this restoration.”

The release will include both the 4K and Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as presumably a digital code (copy) of the film – although not yet confirmed. 1996 film Primal Fear on 4K UHD Blu-ray in March

The 1996 film “Primal Fear” will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 26th as part of the Paramount Presents series, as spine number 43, through Paramount Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by Gregory Hoblit, starred Richard Gere, Laura Linney, Edward Norton, John Mahoney, Alfre Woodard, Frances McDormand, and Terry O’Quinn.

The tech specs for the release have yet to be detailed, but you can very likely expect a 2160p video presentation with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and lossless surround sound.  The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included and a digital code (copy) of the film.  Bonus materials have yet to be announced, but you can for sure expect the previous Blu-ray extras ported over and possibly new extras.  Stay tuned for an update.  The 4K UHD Blu-ray release is now available for preorder over at Amazon.  Below you can see the packaging which includes a fold-out of the original theatrical movie poster.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance comes to 4K in May

1962 western The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance will officially be the first 4K UHD Blu-ray release in the Paramount Presents line on May 17th, as spine number 31, from Paramount Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by John Ford, starred James Stewart, John Wayne, Vera Miles, Lee Marvin, Lee Van Cleef, Woody StrodeEdmond O’Brien, Andy Devine, and John Carradine.

This comes from a new scan and remaster.  The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and restored Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless surround sound as well as restored Mono in Dolby Digital.  The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart along with a digital code (copy) of the film.  You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available now for preorder over at Amazon.  The release will include collectible packaging with tasteful artwork and a fold-out replica of the original movie poster (pictured below) on the slipcover.

Robert Redford film Ordinary People on Blu-ray March

The 1980 Academy Award-winning film Ordinary People will be coming to Blu-ray Disc as part of the Paramount Presents line on March 29th, via Paramount Home Entertainment. This release will be spine number 30 in the Paramount Presentes line of Blu-ray titles. The film, directed by Robert Redford, starred Donald Sutherland, Mary Tyler Moore, Timothy Hutton, Judd Hirsch, and M. Emmet Walsh. This movie won 4 “Oscars” (Academy Awards), including “Best Picture“, and was nominated for 6 Oscars total.

The movie has been “remastered from a new 4K film transfer overseen by Redford” according to a statement from the studio.  The tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed but stay tuned for a later update.  UPDATED: You can now find the Paramount Presents Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

The release will come with the typical fold-out original poster art on the slipcover as well as tasteful photos from the film also included throughout the package design (pictured below).

The bonus materials feature “new interviews with Hutton and Judith Guest, author of the novel upon which the movie was based.” Those extras set to be included with the release are listed below.

Harold and Maude gets a Paramount Presents Blu-ray

The 1971 comedy Harold and Maude is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc as part of the Paramount Presents line on December 7th, via Paramount Home Entertainment. This will be Spine Number 29 in the Paramount Presents line.

The film, celebrating its 50th anniversary, directed by Hal Ashby, starred Ruth Gordon, Bud Cort, Vivian Pickles, Cyril Cusack, Charles Tyner, Ellen Geer, Shari Summers, and Tom Skerritt. This movie has received a new 4K restoration, from a new 4K scan of the original negative. This is detailed below, in a quote from the studio’s press release.

” Originally released on December 20, 1971, HAROLD AND MAUDE celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and has been beautifully restored and remastered for this Limited-Edition release.  For the restoration, the original negative was scanned in 4K and careful color correction and cleanup were undertaken to pay homage to director of photography John Alonzo’s memorable work and honor the look of the film. In addition, the incredible soundtrack was completely remixed using recently discovered tracks to add clarity and depth.  “

The tech specs for the release have not yet been fully detailed, but you can for sure expect a 1080p HD video presentation (presumably in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio) with a remixed lossless sound mix (presumably in Mono). Expect an update on the tech specs soon. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film.

This has been newly remastered from a new 4K film transfer, done under the supervision of filmmaker Cameron Crowe. The tech specs for the release have yet to be fully detailed but you can for sure expect a 1080p HD video presentation in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio and a lossless 5.1 surround sound mix — presumably in the DTS-HD Master Audio format, as with the previous release on the format.
