Breakdown with Kurt Russell on Blu-ray in September

The 1997 film Breakdown starring Kurt Russell is coming to Blu-ray Disc as part of the Paramount Presents line on September 21st, via Paramount Home Entertainment. This release will be spine number 26 in the Paramount Presents series. The film, directed and co-written by Jonathan Mostow, co-starred J.T. Walsh, Kathleen Quinlan, M.C. Gainey, Jack Noseworthy, and Rex Linn.

The movie has received a new 4K scan and remaster, approved by the director, as quoted below.

“Skillful and suspenseful, Paramount’s beloved thriller BREAKDOWN comes to Blu-ray in a director-approved remaster, from a new 4K film scan.”

The tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed, but stay tuned for an update. You can now find the Paramount Presents Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. The release will come with a digital copy of the film and the following bonus materials.

1976 film Bugsy Malone makes its Blu-ray debut in August

The 1976 film Bugsy Malone will officially be getting a Blu-ray Disc release on August 31st as part of the Paramount Presents line, via Paramount Home Entertainment. This will be the very first time that the movie has been available in the Blu-ray format. The film, written & directed by Alan Parker, starred Jodie Foster, Scott Baio, Florence Garland, and John Cassisi. The movie has been remastered from the original elements. Tech specs for the release have not yet been fully detailed, but stay tuned for an update. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find this Paramount Presents Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. This release, set to be spine number 23 in the Paramount Presents line, will come with a collectible slipcover that folds out into the original movie poster (pictured below).

Cameron Crowe film Almost Famous comes to 4K in July

The 2000 film Almost Famous is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a limited edition SteelBook on July 13th via Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, both written and directed by Cameron Crowe, starred Patrick FugitKate Hudson, Billy Crudup, Jason Lee, Anna Paquin, Zooey Deschanel, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jimmy Fallon, and Frances McDormand.

UPDATE: So, as I promised you before, today Paramount has officially announced the upcoming releases of this film. Yes, releases, plural. You’ll hear more about the Blu-ray via Paramount Presents, spine #21 in the series, a bit further below. First off though, let’s discuss the 4K UHD Blu-ray limited-edition SteelBook. Tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio. The movie has been remastered from a new 4K transfer that was supervised by Cameron Crowe. The 4K release will be a 2-disc set with both The Theatrical Cut (available for the first time) on the first disc and “The Bootleg Cut” on the second disc. The 4K SteelBook release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film, and it will NOT include a Blu-ray Disc counterpart. Below, you can find a glimpse (via Cameron Crowe in a tweet) of the 4K SteelBook’s interior artwork.

The bonus materials will be identical to those listed above, as well as include a digital code (copy) of the film.

This release will be spine #20 in the series. The film, directed by Walter Hill, co-starred Brion James, Kevin Tighe, Ed O’Ross, Andrew Divoff, Bernie Casey, Brent Jennings, and Tisha Campbell. This movie has received a new 4K restoration. The tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed but you can very likely expect a 1080p HD presentation with lossless 5.1 surround sound. The release will come with a digital copy of the film. This is the very first time the film has been available on the Blu-ray format stateside.

1959 film Last Train from Gun Hill on Blu-ray in June

The classic 1959 western “Last Train from Gun Hill” is coming to Blu-ray Disc on June 15th via Paramount Presents. The film, which will be spine number 18 in the series, was directed by John Sturges and was shot in the VistaVision cinematographic process. The movie starred Kirk Douglas, Anthony Quinn, Carolyn Jones, Earl Holliman, and Brad Dexter. The tech specs for the release have yet to be fully detailed but it is known that this has received a new 6K scan and been remastered by the studio (Paramount), as stated below.

“… remastered by Paramount Pictures from a 6K film transfer of the original VistaVision negative.”

This film, which will be spine number 17 in the series, was directed by Frank Perry and is based on the abusive relationship between actress Joan Crawford and her daughter Christina Crawford — who wrote the book it is based on. It co-starred Diana ScarwidSteve Forrest, Howard Da Silva, and Rutanya Alda. The tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed but it is known that this release has received a new 4K scan and restoration. The 1952 film “The Greatest Show on Earth” is coming to Blu-ray Disc, as spine #16, in the Paramount Presents line on March 30th — according to an early retail source. The Academy Award-winning film (for ‘Best Picture’), directed by Cecil B. DeMille, featured a cast of Charlton Heston, James Stewart, Betty Hutton, Gloria Grahame, Dorothy Lamour, and Cornel Wilde. The movie has received a new 4K scan and restoration, according to the back package art. The tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD presentation in (likely the original) 1.37:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio Mono sound. The Blu-ray debut of this film will include a digital copy of the film. You can find the upcoming Blu-ray already listed for preorder over at Amazon. It’s worth noting that the studio (Paramount) has not yet officially made an announcement regarding this release and I’m going on what a retailer is rather elaborately indicating here.
