A “Resident Evil Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Collection“ is headed to the 4K UHD Blu-ray format in a box set on November 17th, via Sony, according to retailers and even the studio. In fact, I’m awaiting a full press release officially announcing the set later tomorrow. For now, let’s discuss what all will be included. You will get all six of the films in the live-action “Resident Evil” franchise, starring Milla Jovovich. Those films include:
“Resident Evil” (2002), “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” (2004), “Resident Evil: Extinction” (2007), “Resident Evil: Afterlife” (2010), “Resident Evil: Retribution” (2012), and “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” (2016).
This set comes in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include the Blu-ray Disc counterparts of each film as well as digital codes (copies) for the six films. You can find the Limited Edition Collection 4K set already available for preorder over at Amazon.
UPDATE: the set has now been officially announced. Regarding the tech specs: “All films presented at 2160p Ultra High Definition resolution with HDR 10 and Dolby Atmos immersive audio + DTS-HD MA 5.1 original theatrical audio tracks (DTS-HD MA 7.1 for RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER); aspect ratios vary.” Lastly, you can now find the full details below, after the break.
The 2019 “Hellboy“ film starring David Harbour is officially coming to both 4K UHD Blu-rayand Blu-ray Disc on July 23rd via Lionsgate. The film, directed by Neil Marshall, co-stars Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Daniel Dae Kim, and Thomas Haden Church. Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with both HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray release include 1080p video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound. The releases will both come in the form of “combo pack” with the 4K getting a Blu-ray included, the Blu-ray getting a DVD included, and each getting a digital copy of the film. First, retailer Best Buy will also be getting an exclusive 4K Steelbook release (pictured below) which is now available for pre-order. Next, there’s also going to be an exclusive Blu-ray Steelbook release (pictured below) available over at retailer Target which is not yet available for pre-order but stay tuned for an update.
