1974 film Murder on the Orient Express comes to 4K

The 1974 film adaptation of “Murder on the Orient Express” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 24th via KL Studio Classics. The film, directed by Sidney Lumet, was based on the novel of the same title (written by Agatha Christie. It featured an all-star cast that included Albert FinneySean ConneryIngrid BergmanAnthony PerkinsVanessa RedgraveLauren BacallMartin BalsamJacqueline BissetJean-Pierre CasselJohn GielgudWendy Hiller, Rachel RobertsRichard Widmark, and Michael York. It’s worth noting that this film is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

This release features a “brand new HDR/Dolby Vision Master, from a 4K Scan of the 35mm original camera negative.” The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo lossless sound, on a BD-100 disc. The release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. The Blu-ray included will feature the new 4K master and bonus materials. The original 1974 film adaptation of Agatha Christie‘s Murder on the Orient Express is coming to Blu-ray Disc on February 8th, 2022 via Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Sidney Lumet, starred Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Martin Balsam, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset, Sean Connery, Anthony Perkins, Vanessa Redgrave, Wendy Hiller, and Michael York.

The tech specs for the release and bonus materials have not yet been detailed, but stay tuned perhaps for an update on that. You can now find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. This will mark the first time that the original 1974 film has been available in the Blu-ray format. It is known (from the art) that this release will also include a digital code (copy) of the film.
