Back to the Future celebrates 40th anniversary

The “Back to the Future” trilogy and franchise will celebrate its 40th anniversary with new 4K UHD Blu-ray releases on November 4th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. This will include a limited-edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured above) for each film, as well as a 4K UHD Blu-ray 40th Anniversary Trilogy, and a very limited-edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook 40th Anniversary Trilogy Giftset. That giftset (pictured further below) will be an exclusive at the retailer Amazon.

UPDATED: The release dates have been changed from October to November 4th. This new release date applies to all 40th anniversary edition releases.

The tech specs for the releases include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HDR10+ forms of high dynamic range with Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-100 disc, for each film. The 40th anniversary 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBooks, standard 40th anniversary trilogy 4K UHD Blu-ray, and the 4K SteelBook giftset will all come as “combo pack” with their Blu-ray Disc counterparts included, as well as digital copies compatible with Movies Anywhere.

You can now find the 40th Anniversary 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBooks for Back to the Future,” Back to the Future: Part II,” and Back to the Future: Part III now available for preorder at Amazon. The 40th Anniversary 4K UHD Blu-ray Trilogy release is also available for preorder at Amazon. As far as the Amazon exclusive 40th Anniversary Trilogy 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook Giftset, it has a listing, but it’s currently unavailable for preorder. It might have sold out, to be honest with you, as it was available earlier this morning. Stay tuned for an update on that.

The 40th Anniversary 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook for the first film, the 40th Anniversary 4K UHD Blu-ray Trilogy, and giftset will all feature some new bonus materials exclusive to these releases. Those are listed below, along with the previous extras. NOTE: The all-new extras will not be included with the individual 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook releases of the film’s sequels, only the first film and trilogy.

Back to the Future Ultimate Trilogy on 4K October

The Back to the Future Ultimate Trilogy is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 20th, via Universal. The box set includes the three films “Back to the Future” (1985), “Back to the Future Part II” (1989), and “Back to the Future Part III” (1990). The films, directed by Robert Zemeckis & produced by Steven Spielberg, starred Michael J. FoxChristopher LloydLea Thompson, James Tolkan, Billy Zane, and Thomas F. Wilson. The tech specs for the films include 2160p 4K presentations in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HDR10+ forms of High Dynamic Range along with Dolby Atmos sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterparts as well as digital code (copy) included for each film.

Now, this may be confusing consumers but there will be a total of three different releases of the trilogy on the 4K UHD Blu-ray format: a standard 4K UHD Blu-ray set, a gift set (exclusive to Amazon), and a SteelBook set (exclusive to Best Buy).

So far, there’s The 4K UHD Blu-ray set now available for preorder over at Amazon, which includes a collectible levitating hoverboard (as pictured below).

As previously mentioned, there will be several retailer exclusive versions of the 4K UHD Blu-ray set, and even a Blu-ray version of the 35th Anniversary Limited Edition Gift Set – exclusive to retailer Target and now available for preorder. Another form will be the 35th Anniversary Limited Edition Trilogy SteelBook exclusive set at retailer Best Buy, which is now available for preorder (pictured below).

1988 film “Bright City, Big Lights” with Michael J. Fox on Blu-ray in November

The 1988 James Bridges directed film Bright City, Big Lights starring Michael J. Fox is coming to Blu-ray Disc on November 20th via MVD Entertainment, as part of their MVD Rewind Collection label. The film, based on the novel written by Jay McInerney, co-starred Kiefer SutherlandPhoebe Cates, and Swoosie Kurtz. Tech specs for the release include 1080p video in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio and Uncompressed Linear PCM 2.0 Stereo sound. This is now available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon.
