Starship Troopers on 25th Anniversary 4K SteelBook

The 1997 sci-fi film Starship Troopers will be getting a 25th Anniversary Edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release on November 1st via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by Paul Verhoeven, starred Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Jake Busey, Neil Patrick Harris, Clancy Brown, Patrick Muldoon, and Michael Ironside.

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, just as found on the previous 2017 4K physical release.  It also includes DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound.  The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray counterpart included as well as a digital code (copy) of the film.  You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook available for preorder over at Amazon.  The release will include a new cast reunion, listed below.

Nobody with Bob Odenkirk on Blu-ray and 4K in June

The 2021 film “Nobody” starring Bob Odenkirk is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on June 22nd via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Ilya Naishuller, co-stars Connie NielsenChristopher LloydMichael IronsideRZA, and Aleksey Serebryakov. It’s also worth noting, at the time of writing this, the film is currently “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-66 (66 gigabytes) disc. And the tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-50 (50 gigabytes) disc. Both the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that the 4K will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart, the Blu-ray will include its DVD counterpart, and each will come with a digital code (copy) of the film compatible with Movies Anywhere. Nobody starring Bob Odenkirk on 4K and Blu-ray in June

The 2021 film “Nobody” starring Bob Odenkirk appears to be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on June 22nd via Universal Studios Home Entertainment, according to retailers. The film, directed by Ilya Naishuller, co-stars Connie Nielsen, Christopher Lloyd, Michael Ironside, RZA, and Aleksey Serebryakov. The tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed, as the studio has yet to officially announce it, but stay tuned for an update on that. It is known via the cover art (pictured above) that the releases will both come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that the 4K will get its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray will get a DVD counterpart, and each will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray listed for preorder over at Amazon as well as at retailer Best Buy — who gave away the release date.

EDITORIAL NOTE: Lastly, I have to say that I personally am already a big fan of this flick. I was able to watch it three times over the past weekend via a digital rental. This movie comes as highly recommended.

1990 film Total Recall 4K UHD Blu-ray December

The 1990 film adaptation of Total Recall starring Arnold Schwarzenegger is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 8th via Lionsgate, distributing for Studiocanal. The film, celebrating its 30th anniversary, has received a new 4K restoration, as you can find detailed below.

“Restored in 4K from a scan of the original 35mm negative” […] “Undertaken by STUDIOCANAL, the restoration was supervised by Paul Verhoeven himself. The restoration crew paid particularly high attention to preserving special-effects continuity, as Total Recall was one of the earliest films to use computer-generated images for special effects winning the Special Achievement Award for Visual Effects at the 1990 Academy Awards®.”

The film, directed by Paul Verhoeven & based on Philip K. Dick’s short story, co-starred Sharon Stone, Rachel Ticotin, and Michael Ironside. Tech specs for the release include a 2160p presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The release will come in a 3-disc set, making it a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film, as well as a Blu-ray bonus disc full of extras. “Top Gun” with Tom Cruise lands on 4K in May

The 1986 film Top Gun starring Tom Cruise is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a big way on May 19th, via Paramount. The film, directed by the late Tony Scott, is finally about to receive a sequel with Top Gun: Maverick later this year and that’s likely why this release is timed for its theatrical release. Top Gun co-starred Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, Tom Skerritt, Michael Ironside, Tim Robbins, Meg Ryan, and Val Kilmer.

The release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film included. You can now find the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release available for preorder over at Amazon and a placeholder page listed over at retailer Best Buy. It’s certainly worth noting that the film will be receiving a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release as well, available at all retailers, and now up for preorder over at Amazon and at retailer Best Buy. UPDATE: The tech specs and bonus materials for the release have been unveiled via the Amazon listing now with the back of the package art. Tech specs include video in HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The bonus materials will include some content in 4K on the 4K disc as well as on the original Blu-ray Disc release which comes with it.
