The 1990 film The Two Jakes gets a 4K in August

The 1990 film “The Two Jakes” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on August 26th via KL Studio Classics. Jack Nicholson directed and starred in the movie. It co-starred Harvey KeitelMeg TillyMadeleine Stowe, James Hong, and Eli Wallach.

The movie has received a new 4K master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and 2.0 stereo sound, on a BD-100 disc. The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.

You cannot yet find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder at Amazon, but stay tuned for an update on that. In the meantime, you can preorder directly via Kino Lorber’s website.

1995 Terry Gilliam film 12 Monkeys arrives on 4K April

The 1995 film “12 Monkeys” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray for the very first time on April 26th via Arrow Video here in the United States.  The film, directed by Terry Gilliam, starred Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe, David Morse, Christopher Plummer, and Brad Pitt.

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and 2.0 Stereo lossless sound mixes.  This is said to be using a “brand new restoration from a 4K scan of the original negative by Arrow Films, approved by director Terry Gilliam.”

The 1999 film “The General’s Daughter” starring John Travolta is coming to Blu-ray Disc on June 29th via Paramount, according to retailers. The film, directed by Simon West, co-starred Madeleine StoweJames Cromwell, Timothy Hutton, Leslie Stefanson, Daniel von Bargen, Clarence Williams III, and James Woods. The tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed. You can find that the Blu-ray is now listed for preorder over at Amazon.
