A Nightmare on Elm Street is coming to 4K in October

The modern classic 1984 horror film “A Nightmare on Elm Street” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 15th via Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. The film, written & directed by Wes Craven, starred Robert Englund, John Saxon, Johnny Depp, Heather Langenkamp, Ronee Blakley, Amanda Wyss, Jsu Garcia, Charles Fleischer, Joseph Whipp, Joe Unger, and Lin Shaye.

The movie is celebrating its 40th anniversary in a big way with a standard 4K UHD Blu-ray (pictured above on the left), a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured above in the middle), and in the United Kingdom there will also be a 4K UHD Blu-ray “40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition” set (pictured above on the right).

It is known that the film has received a new 4K restoration and will include both the theatrical and uncut versions of the film in 4K. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The artwork tells us the SteelBook release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital copy included. The standard 4K release will have a digital copy.

You can already find the standard 4K UHD Blu-ray listed at online retailers Amazon and DeepDiscount and retailer Target (mistakenly for the SteelBook), the 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook listed at online retailers Amazon & GRUV and retailer Walmart. Bonus materials set to be included on the standard 4K and SteelBook releases are listed below.

1978 Jack Nicholson film Goin’ South on 4K in August

The 1978 western/comedy “Goin’ South” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on August 27th via Vinegar Syndrome‘s sub-label Cinématographe. The film, directed by & starring Jack Nicholson, co-starred Mary Steenburgen, Christopher Lloyd, John Belushi, Veronica Cartwright, Richard Bradford, Danny DeVito, Ed Begley Jr., and Lin Shaye.

This comes from a new 4K restoration of its original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0 Mono lossless sound. The release is a 2-disc “combo pack” with a (Region A) Blu-ray Disc included. This retailer version of the 4K UHD Blu-ray is available for preorder at Amazon. It’s certainly worth noting that a limited version of the 4K UHD Blu-ray (with slipcover) is already available to order directly via Vinegar Syndrome. The bonus materials included with the retailer version are listed below.

“The Grudge” 2020 remake on Blu-ray in March

The 2020 remake of the film The Grudge is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on March 24th, via Sony. The film (not to be mistaken for the 2004 remake) was directed by Nicolas Pesce & produced by Sam Raimi, and stars Tara WestwoodJunko BaileyDavid Lawrence Brown, Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, Joel Marsh Garland, Bradley Sawatzky, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye, John Cho, and Jackie Weaver. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound. The release will come with a digital (code) copy of the film.
