The 1982 film Gandhi is coming to 4K in April

The 1982 film “Gandhi” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on April 29th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film, a winner of 8 Academy Awards, was directed by Richard Attenborough. It starred Ben Kingsley, Candice Bergen, Edward Fox, John Gielgud, Trevor Howard, John Mills, and Martin Sheen.

The movie has received a restoration from the original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10) form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and 2.0 stereo lossless sound. The motion picture is split across two 4K discs. The 4-disc release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. It will also come with a digital copy of the film compatible with Movies Anywhere.

NOTE: This film has been available on 4K UHD Blu-ray before. It was previously included with the “Columbia Classics 4K UHD Ultra HD Collection: Volume 1” box set. However, this individual release will be the first time that Dolby Vision is included with the physical media release. Up until now, it has only been included digitally.

The 4K disc will include the theatrical trailer. The other bonus materials set to be included with this release are listed below.

1974 film Murder on the Orient Express comes to 4K

The 1974 film adaptation of “Murder on the Orient Express” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 24th via KL Studio Classics. The film, directed by Sidney Lumet, was based on the novel of the same title (written by Agatha Christie. It featured an all-star cast that included Albert FinneySean ConneryIngrid BergmanAnthony PerkinsVanessa RedgraveLauren BacallMartin BalsamJacqueline BissetJean-Pierre CasselJohn GielgudWendy Hiller, Rachel RobertsRichard Widmark, and Michael York. It’s worth noting that this film is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

This release features a “brand new HDR/Dolby Vision Master, from a 4K Scan of the 35mm original camera negative.” The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo lossless sound, on a BD-100 disc. The release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. The Blu-ray included will feature the new 4K master and bonus materials. “Columbia Classics” Volume 1 set on 4K in June

BREAKING: Six well-known films have all been restored in 4K and will be getting an exclusive release on the 4K UHD Blu-ray format via what is being called the Columbia Classics: 4K Ultra HD Collection – Volume 1 box set, which is set for a June 16th release, via Sony. The set, a limited-edition collection, will be literally limited with only what is said to be fewer than 8 thousand units produced — as quoted below from the press release:

The six films in the COLUMBIA CLASSICS 4K ULTRA HD COLLECTION are only available on 4K Ultra HD disc within this special collector’s set with a limited-edition run of fewer than 8,000 units in the U.S

This 4K box set includes the following films:

The tech specs for the films include 4K video with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and a variety of Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio sound mixes on the six different films. Lastly, regarding tech specs, it is worth noting that the film Gandhi will actually receive Dolby Vision and HDR10, in terms of video.
