The 1987 film Innerspace limited edition 4K in April

Joe Dante directed the movie, which Steven Spielberg produced. It starred Dennis Quaid, Martin Short, and Meg Ryan. The supporting cast included Kevin McCarthy, Fiona Lewis, Vernon Wells, Robert Picardo, Wendy Schaal, Harold Sylvester, and Henry Gibson.

It has received a new restoration from the original 35mm negative (by Arrow Films), approved by director Joe Dante. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10-compatible) high dynamic range, along with Dolby Atmos, as well as lossless 2.0 stereo, and a 4.0 from the 70mm 6-track mix. Tech specs for the Blu-ray version include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio along with Dolby Atmos, as well as both lossless 2.0 and 4.0 sound mixes.

The 4K UHD Blu-ray Limited Edition and Blu-ray Limited Edition sets are now available for preorder at Amazon. Also, you can find them available for preorder directly via Arrow Video’s website or the MVD Shop.

Small Soldiers comes to 4K SteelBook in July

The 1998 film “Small Soldiers” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on July 22nd via Paramount Home Media Distribution. Joe Dante directed this movie, which Adam Rifkin co-wrote. It starred Kirsten Dunst, David Cross, Jay Mohr, Denis Leary, Kevin Dunn, Dick Miller, and Phil Hartman.

The tech specs for the 4K release have yet to be detailed. But, you should expect at least a 2160p video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio in at least HDR10 and with a lossless 5.1 surround sound mix. Stay tuned for an update on the exact tech specs as more information becomes available. This 4K SteelBook 2-disc release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. Although yet to be confirmed, a digital should also be included. Stay tuned for verification on that and the tech specs.

Rock ‘n’ Roll High School comes to 4K in December

The 1979 film “Rock ‘n’ Roll High School” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 10th via Shout! Studios. The film, co-directed by Allan Arkush and Joe Dante, starred P.J. Soles, Vincent Van Patten, Clint Howard, Dey Young, Mary Woronov, Paul Bartel, Dick Miller, Don Steele, and Ramones (Joey Ramone, Johnny Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone, and Marky Ramone).

The movie has received a new 4K scan from the original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Dual Mono lossless sound. The release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray counterpart included. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder at Amazon. Also, you can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder at online retailer GRUV. You can even preorder directly via Shout! Factory’s website where you’ll get a bonus poster. The 4K release will include audio commentary tracks. This 3-disc set uses the third disc (Blu-ray) for additional special features (listed below).

1981 Joe Dante film The Howling on 4K in February

The 1981 horror film The Howling is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 15th, 2022 via Scream Factory (Shout! Factory) in a “Collector’s Edition” form. The film, directed by Joe Dante, starred Dee Wallace, Dennis Dugan, Patrick Macnee, Christopher Stone, Belinda Balaski, Kevin McCarthy, John Carradine, and Slim Pickens.

The tech specs have not yet been fully detailed but you can expect a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 (and possibly Dolby Vision) form(s) of high dynamic range from a 2021 4K restoration by StudioCanal — approved by director Joe Dante. The Monster Collection box set comes to Blu-ray in July

“The Monster Collection” (Collector’s Edition) will officially be coming to Blu-ray Disc on July 13th via Doppelgänger Releasing, a genre label of Music Box Films. This 3-Disc box set includes two documentaries: “The Frankenstein Complex” (2015) and “Phil Tippett: Mad Dreams and Monsters” (2019). Both documentaries were directed by Gilles Penso and Alexandre Poncet. If you’re a fan of horror, fantasy, and science fiction films you’ll definitely be interested in these documentaries that take a look at the design of famous creatures and characters from motion pictures. These documentaries feature some excellent interviews with famous special effects artists and directors such as Rick Baker, Guillermo del Toro, Joe Dante, Mick Garris, John Landis, Greg Nicotero, Kevin Smith, Chris Wallas, Phil Tippett, Dennis Muren, Tom Woodruff Jr., Matt Winston, and Paul Verhoeven. Tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed.

It featured a (live-action) cast of Kirsten Dunst, Gregory Smith, Jacob Smith, Phil Hartman, Wendy Schaal, David Cross, Denis Leary, and Dick Miller. The movie also featured a legendary voice cast that included Tommy Lee Jones, Frank Langella, Bruce Dern, Jim Brown, George Kennedy, Clint Walker, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Christina Ricci.
