The tech specs for the Blu-ray release include a 24-disc set with a 1080p HD video presentation in a variety of 1.33:1 and 1.78:1 aspect ratios with Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo [for seasons 1-6] and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound [for seasons 7-12].

Coraline and ParaNorman on 4K this December

The Laika company‘s stop-motion animated films “Coraline” and “ParaNorman” will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in both standard and SteelBook forms on December 13th via Shout! Factory.  The films are briefly individually highlighted below.

“Coraline” from 2009 was directed by , best known for also directing “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993).  Selick adapted the screenplay from a book written by Neil Gaiman.  The film featured the voice talents of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, John Hodgman, Ian McShane, and Keith David.  Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.

“ParaNorman” from 2012 was co-directed by Chris Butler and Sam Fell.  Chris Butler also wrote the screenplay.  The film featured the voice talents of Kodi Smit-McPhee, Tucker Albrizzi, Anna Kendrick, Casey Affleck, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Leslie Mann, Jeff Garlin, Alex Borstein, and John Goodman.  Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.

Both of these 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that they each will also include their Blu-ray Disc counterpart.  The bonus materials will include all of the previous Blu-ray extras from the latest editions as well as a booklet [for each].  Also, the 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBooks (pictured further above) each feature new hand-drawn artwork.

The 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBooks for “Coraline” and “ParaNorman” are available for preorder over at retailer Best Buy.  You can also order them directly via the Shout Factory! online store.  Also, regarding these 4K releases, it’s now officially been stated:

Pixar’s “Wall-E” comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray March

The 2008 Academy Award-winning Pixar computer-animated film “Wall-E is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 3rd, via Disney, according to an alert to retailers. The film, an Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature Film, was directed by Andrew Stanton, and it featured the voice talents of Ben BurttElissa KnightJeff Garlin, and Sigourney Weaver – as well as included Fred Willard (in live-action). Tech specs for the 4K and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed but stay tuned for a possible update. It’s very likely the release will come with the HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound – but that’s just speculation based on previous releases. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart and bonus disc included as well as a digital code (copy) of the film. You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray now is available for preorder over at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target. Lastly, it’s worth certainly mentioning that retailer Best Buy will be getting an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release of the film (pictured below), which is now available for preorder.
