The 2006 James Gunn film Slither comes to 4K in June

James Gunn wrote and directed the movie. It starred Nathan Fillion, Elizabeth Banks, and Michael Rooker. The movie has received a 4K scan from the 35mm interpositive approved by Writer/Director James Gunn and Director of Photography Gregory Middleton. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10-compatible) high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The release will come as a 2-disc “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.

Superman 2025 on 4K and Blu-ray in September

The 2025 film “Superman” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on September 23rd via Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. James Gunn directed and co-wrote the DC Studios film. It stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult. The film also stars Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Neva Howell. It’s certainly worth noting that the movie is “Certified Fresh” by critics and “Verified Hot” by audiences over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision or HDR10 and Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Atmos sound. Both physical media format releases will include a digital copy, compatible with Movies Anywhere.

There will also be a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured further above) available. It’s currently unavailable for preorder at Amazon, but a placeholder exists. Stay tuned for an update on that. 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake on 4K in January

The 2004 remake of “Dawn of the Dead” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on January 31st, 2023 via Scream Factory (Shout! Factory).   The film, directed by Zack Snyder, with a screenplay adaptation written by James Gunn based on the 1968 George A. Romero film, starred Sarah Polley, Ving Rhames, Jake Weber, Mekhi Phifer, Mekhi Phifer, Michael Kelly, Kevin Zegers, Michael Barry, Lindy Booth, and Matt Frewer.

The film will be presented in the UNRATED cut on the 4K and both versions on the two additional Blu-rays included in this “combo pack” release.  The UNRATED Cut has received a “NEW 2022 4K Scan Of The Original Camera Negative” according to Shout! Factory.  Tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed but you can for sure expect a 2160p 4K video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with at least HDR10 form of high dynamic range and lossless audio in presumably 5.1 surround.  You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray of the film available for preorder over at retailer Best Buy as well as directly via Shout! Factory‘s store.

Peacemaker First Season on Blu-ray in November

The HBO and DC original series “Peacemaker: The Complete First Season” is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on November 22nd via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.  The show, which was created by James Gunn, in its first season stars John Cena, Jennifer Holland, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, Chukwudi Iwuji, Annie Chang, Lochlyn Munro, and Robert Patrick.

The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation and lossless 5.1 surround sound, presumably in DTS-HD Master Audio although yet to be confirmed, spanning across a 2-disc set [both using BD-50 discs].  You can now find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at retailer Best Buy as well as online retailer Deep Discount.  Stay tuned for other retailer preorder links in further updates.  The bonus materials set to be included with the Blu-ray release are listed below.

The Suicide Squad on 4K and Blu-ray in October

The 2021 film “The Suicide Squad” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on October 26th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film, written and directed by James Gunn, stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Viola Davis, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Alice Braga, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Flula Borg, Jai Courtney, Steve Agee, Sean Gunn, and features the voice of Sylvester Stallone.

UPDATED: The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.90:1 aspect ratio with HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the same 1.90:1 aspect ratio and with the same Dolby Atmos sound. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

Retailer Best Buy will be getting an exclusive release of the 4K UHD Blu-ray in SteelBook form (pictured below) that is also available for preorder.

The releases are both going to each come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that the 4K will come with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and the Blu-ray will come with its DVD counterpart. Both will also include a digital code (copy) of the film that is confirmed to be compatible with Movies Anywhere. Guardians of the Galaxy comes to 4K in October

The 2014 Marvel Studios film Guardians of the Galaxy appears to be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 1st via Marvel (Disney), according to multiple retailer listings. The film, part of the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” and directed by James Gunn, starred Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, and Sean Gunn. It also featured the voice talents of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper. Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray and a digital code (copy) of the film included. You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray now available for pre-order over at Amazon and at Best Buy. Speaking of retailer Best Buy, they will be getting a 4K Exclusive Steelbook release of the film (pictured below) which is available for pre-order as well.
