Kubrick 3-Film Collection on 4K in September

A set called the Stanley Kubrick 3-Film 4K Collection is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 22nd featuring three of the late director’s classic films, via Warner. The 7-disc set will include the following films, two of which were both previously released and then the third will be coming out the very same day (also individually):

  • “The Shining” (1980)
  • “2001: A Space Odyssey” (1968)
  • “Full Metal Jacket” (1987)

The tech specs for the releases are as follows. All will be presented in the 2160p 4K resolution with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range and get DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound. One film, 2001: A Space Odyssey, will get HDR10+ form of High Dynamic Range in addition to the two other forms. Aspect ratios are as follows, The Shining in 1.78:1 aspect ratio (mislabeled 1.85:1), 2001: A Space Odyssey in 2.20:1 ratio, and finally Full Metal Jacket in 1.78:1 (mislabeled 1.85:1). Each of the films will come with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart but 2001: A Space Odyssey will also include an additional bonus disc. All three films will get a digital code (copy) of them included as well, making each of them a “combo pack” by definition. Their bonus materials will be identical to those found on the standard individual 4K UHD Blu-ray releases. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray set available for preorder over at Amazon as well as at retailers Best Buy and Target.

“2001: A Space Odyssey” gets Exclusive Steelbook at Best Buy on 4K UHD Blu-ray

The 1968 Stanley Kubrick directed film “2001: A Space Odyssey” is getting an Exclusive Steelbook release on the 4K UHD Blu-ray format December 18th via Warner at retailer Best Buy.  The tech specs and bonus materials for this release will be identical to the standard 4K release, as previously detailed HERE.

UPDATE: Because the release date has changed (yet again now) the pre-order listing for this has been taken down over at Best Buy. Stay tuned for an update when it goes back up.

Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” is coming to 4K in December

Warner Brother Home Entertainment has officially announced plans to bring the 1968 Stanley Kubrick directed Sci-Fi classic “2001: A Space Odyssey” in a new restoration to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 18th. The release received a restoration, as mentioned, but not a lot of detail yet on the exact process. Tech specs for the release include full 2160p 4K video in the 2.20:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound. Yes, no Atmos on this release, sadly. The title is available for PRE-ORDER already over at Amazon. Bonus materials set to be included on this “combo pack” release, including a remastered Blu-ray Disc of the film, are listed below.
