2003 Tim Burton directed film Big Fish comes to 4K in May

The 2003 film “Big Fish” directed by Tim Burton is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 4th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film, based on the novel by Daniel Wallace, starred Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lange, Helena Bonham Carter, Alison Lohman, Missi Pyle, Steve Buscemi, and Danny DeVito. This movie has received a new 4K remaster from the original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p presentation in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound as well as the original 5.1 lossless theatrical sound mix (in DTS-HD Master Audio). The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film. UPDATE: You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray listed as available for preorder over at Amazon. The bonus materials set to be included with the release are listed below.

RUMOR: “Birds of Prey” on 4K and Blu-ray May

The 2020 film “Birds of Prey” starring Margot Robbie, as “Harley Quinn”, appears to be coming to physical media on both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc, via Warner, on May 12th – according to retailers. This comes after the film was recently released early digitally when theaters closed during these strange times we currently are living in. The film, directed by Cathy Yan, co-stars Rosie Perez, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Ella Jay Basco, Chris Messina, and Ewan McGregor. The tech specs for the releases have not yet been detailed but it is believed that the 4K will receive both HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range as well as Dolby Atmos sound. The 4K it is known from the artwork (pictured above) will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray and a digital code (copy) of the film included. So far, that’s all based on retail sources and has not yet been officially announced by the studio (Warner), making it technically a RUMOR. It’s worth noting you can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray as well as over at retailer Best Buy, who will be getting an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below), also now available for preorder. All “Star Wars” films come to 4K UHD Blu-ray March
The remaining films in the “Star Wars” film franchise – so far – are all coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 31st it seems, via Disney, according to retailer listings. There will first be a very lavish, expensive box set available (seemingly exclusive) at retailer Best Buy called “The Skywalker Saga” (pictured above) which is now available for preorder. That Skywalker Saga set will include Episodes 1-9 of the films, as well as two Blu-ray Disc counterparts for each film, filled with bonus materials – yet to be detailed. Stay tuned for further details regarding this release as it develops.
Now, as of today, there also are most certainly individual releases for Episodes 1-7 coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 31st as well as the film “Rogue One – A Star Wars Story” (2016). It’s certainly worth noting that these titles are now all listed over at retailer Best Buy, individually. So, as you’d expect I’ll be listing the films coming out in theatrical chronological order with direct links to the Best Buy preorder listings – not yet functional but currently placeholder pages. UPDATED: I am now adding Amazon preorder listings to this post as they are getting listed.

2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast on 4K March

The 2017 live-action Disney film adaptation of “Beauty and the Beast“ is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 10th, via Disney, according to retailers. The film, directed by Bill Condon, featured a cast of Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen, and Emma Thompson. Tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed but you can likely expect it to include HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. Also, there’s no info regarding the bonus materials set to be included on the release, but stay tuned for updates on that. Doctor Sleep comes to 4K and Blu-ray February

The 2019 sequel “Doctor Sleep” starring Ewan McGregor is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on February 4th via Warner. The film, a sequel to The Shining based on the novel by Stephen King and directed by Mike Flanagan, co-stars Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, Cliff Curtis, Zahn McClarnon, Emily Alyn Lind, Selena Anduze, Robert Longstreet, Carel Struycken, Carl Lumbly, Henry Thomas, Bruce Greenwood, Alex Essoe, and Roger Dale Floyd. It should be noted that, at the time of writing, the film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes. Both the 4K and Blu-ray release will include a “Director’s Cut” of the film, in addition to the theatrical version – on the Blu-ray Disc.

Disney’s “Christopher Robin” with Ewan McGregor comes to Blu-ray in November
The 2018 Disney live-action film “Christopher Robin“ starring Ewan McGregor is coming to Blu-ray Disc on November 6th. The film was directed by Marc Forster. Tech specs for the release include 1080p HD video in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD 7.1 Master Audio sound. The Blu-ray Disc release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with a DVD and Digital Copy of the film included. The Blu-ray is available for pre-order over at Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. It’s also worth noting that Target will be getting an Exclusive Storybook packaging version of the Blu-ray, also now available to pre-order. There’s no Amazon pre-order listing yet, but stay tuned for an update on that.
