1996 film Matilda arrives in 4K this September

The 1996 film adaptation of the story “Matilda” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray format in limited edition SteelBook packaging on September 5th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.  The film, based on the Roald Dahl book of the same title was directed by, produced by, and co-starred Danny DeVito.  It starred Mara Wilson, Rhea Pearlman, Embeth Davidtz, Pam Ferris, and Paul Reubens.  The release will include a new 4K scan of the film [“scanned from the original camera negative”] presented in both HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range, presented in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio, as well as feature sound in Dolby Atmos and the original theatrical 5.1 surround in lossless DTS-HD Master Audio.  This 2-disc release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning it will also include the Blu-ray as well as a digital copy of the film.  Also, the release will feature an all-new director audio commentary with Danny Devito, as listed below along with the other extras set to be included on this release as bonus materials.

Army of Darkness marches onto 4K in September

The 1992 film “Army of Darkness” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 27th via Scream Factory (Shout! Factory).  The film, directed and co-written by Sam Raimi, starred Bruce Campbell, Embeth Davidtz, Marcus Gilbert, Ian Abercrombie, Bridget Fonda, and Richard Grove.  The release will come in the form of a 4-disc “combo pack” with several Blu-ray Discs of the film included along with extras.  There will be a standard 4K UHD Bluray (pictured above) and then also a limited-edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below).

The tech specs for the 4K releases include a 2160p video presentation in various aspect ratios and presumably with HDR10 (at least) and Dolby Atmos and the original 5.1 and 2.0 stereo lossless mixes. However, it has yet to be confirmed by Shout! Factory.  So, stay tuned for an update on that and regarding other details.

Factory, the extras [bonus materials] are “currently in progress” and will be announced at a later point.  So, as mentioned, stay tuned for an update regarding these 4K releases of the film.

M. Night Shyamalan’s Old on 4K and Blu-ray October

The 2021 film “Old” is officially coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on October 19th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, written & directed by M. Night Shyamalan, stars Gael García Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Rufus Sewell, Alex Wolff, Thomasin McKenzie, Abbey Lee, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Ken Leung, Eliza Scanlen, Aaron Pierre, Embeth Davidtz, and Emun Elliott.

The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-100 disc. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-50 disc. Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that the 4K will include its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray version will include its DVD counterpart, and each will get a digital code (copy) of the film — compatible with Movies Anywhere. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. There will also be a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below) available as an exclusive over at retailer Best Buy. It’s now available for preorder.

The bonus materials set to be included with both the 4K and Blu-ray releases are listed below.

“Schindler’s List” restored and coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray in December

The 1993 Steven Spielberg directed film “Schindler’s List” has received a 4K restoration which is coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on December 18th via Universal – as a “25th Anniversary Edition” release. The film, which won a total of 7 Academy Awards, featured a cast of Liam NeesonRalph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley, Embeth Davidtz, Caroline Goodall, and Jonathan Sagall.

Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with both HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray release include 1080p video in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound. The 4K release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray included (for bonus materials as well). Both the 4K and Blu-ray will include a Digital Copy of the film. The 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray versions of the “25th Anniversary Edition” are now available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon.
