The 2016 sequel Kung Fu Panda 3 gets a 4K in March

The movie was co-directed by Alessandro Carloni and Jennifer Yuh Nelson. It features the voice talents of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Bryan Cranston, Dustin Hoffman, J.K. Simmons, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, David Cross, Kate Hudson, Jackie Chan, and James Hong.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) and Dolby Atmos sound. The 2-disc release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included, along with a digital code (copy), compatible with Movies Anywhere.

There will also be a Kung Fu Panda 4-Movie Collection on 4K UHD Blu-ray (pictured above) set to be released on March 3rd, also from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. It’s now available for preorder at Amazon and GRUV. That set will not include Blu-ray Disc counterparts, only the 4K discs and digital codes. The full tech specs for the films feature a variety of 2.35:1 and 2.39:1 aspect ratios, each in a 2160p video presentation, with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) and Dolby Atmos sound.

Small Soldiers comes to 4K SteelBook in July

The 1998 film “Small Soldiers” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on July 22nd via Paramount Home Media Distribution. Joe Dante directed this movie, which Adam Rifkin co-wrote. It starred Kirsten Dunst, David Cross, Jay Mohr, Denis Leary, Kevin Dunn, Dick Miller, and Phil Hartman.

The tech specs for the 4K release have yet to be detailed. But, you should expect at least a 2160p video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio in at least HDR10 and with a lossless 5.1 surround sound mix. Stay tuned for an update on the exact tech specs as more information becomes available. This 4K SteelBook 2-disc release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. Although yet to be confirmed, a digital should also be included. Stay tuned for verification on that and the tech specs.

You can’t preorder this 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook yet at Amazon or Walmart. Still, they both already have listings, which should turn into functional preorders very soon. Again, stay tuned for an update on that as well. Below is a glimpse of the artwork, packaging, and discs.

2008 animated film Kung Fu Panda on 4K in March

According to retailers, the 2008 DreamWorks CG animated film “Kung Fu Panda” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 12th distributed by Universal Studios Home Entertainment.  The film, co-directed by John Stevenson & Mark Osborne, featured a voice cast that included Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Ian McShane, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, David Cross, and James Hong.  It’s certainly worth noting that (over the years since its release) this film has maintained a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound on a BD-66 disc.  The release will be a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included and a digital code (copy) of the film.  That Blu-ray is likely where you’ll get all of the original 2008 extras ported over.

2006 film She’s the Man with Amanda Bynes comes to Blu-ray

The 2006 romantic comedy film “She’s the Man” starring Amanda Bynes is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc for the very first time on March 2nd via Paramount. The film, directed by Andy Fickman, co-starred Channing Tatum, Laura Ramsey, Robert Hoffman, Alexandra Breckenridge, Julie Hagerty, David Cross, and Vinnie Jones. The tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD presentation and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. UPDATE: you can now find the upcoming Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

It’s most certainly worth noting that there will also be a “Girls Rule 3-Movie Collection” Blu-ray Disc release (pictured above) that includes this film along with “Mean Girls” (2004) and “Clueless” (1995) on the same date. That 3-movie collection Blu-ray set is not yet available for preorder either. The 3-movie collection and individual release will both come with a digital copy of the film. The 1998 film “Small Soldiers” directed by Joe Dante is coming to Blu-ray Disc, for the very first time in North America, on February 2nd, 2021, via Paramount. The movie was an action, adventure, comedy that used a combination of both live-action video and CG animation. It featured a (live-action) cast of Kirsten Dunst, Gregory Smith, Jacob Smith, Phil Hartman, Wendy Schaal, David Cross, Denis Leary, and Dick Miller. The movie also featured a legendary voice cast that included Tommy Lee Jones, Frank Langella, Bruce Dern, Jim Brown, George Kennedy, Clint Walker, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Christina Ricci.

Critically acclaimed 2018 film “Sorry to Bother You” comes to Blu-ray in October

The 2018 Boots Riley written and directed film Sorry to Bother You  starring Lakeith Stanfield is coming to Blu-ray Disc on October 23rd via Fox Home Entertainment. The film, at time of writing this, is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes where its carrying a 93% rating based on the critics’ reviews. This comedy co-stars Tessa Thompson, Jermaine FowlerOmari HardwickTerry CrewsDanny GloverSteven YeunArmie HammerForest Whitaker, and also features the voices of David CrossPatton Oswalt, and Lily James.
