The 1983 film Blue Thunder is coming to 4K in May

The 1983 crime drama “Blue Thunder“ is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a Limited Edition on May 5th via Arrow Video, distributed stateside by MVD Entertainment Group.

John Badham directed the movie, which featured a screenplay co-written by Dan O’Bannon and Don Jakoby. The film starred Roy Scheider, Daniel Stern, Warren Oates, Candy Clark, David Sheiner, Joe Santos, and Malcolm McDowell.

It has received a 4K restoration from the original negative. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) high dynamic range, along with lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (remix) surround and (original) 2.0 Stereo sound.

The 1989 film Leviathan comes to 4K in February

The 1989 film “Leviathan” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 20th via KL Studio Classics (Kino Lorber).  The film was directed by George P. Cosmatos and starred Peter Weller, Richard Crenna, Amanda Pays, Daniel Stern, Michael Carmine, Meg Foster, Ernie Hudson, and Hector Elizondo.  The movie has received a NEW master from a 4K Scan of the 35mm Interpositive.  Tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and both lossless 5.1 surround and 2.0 Stereo sound mixes on a BD-100 disc.  The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.  You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder at Amazon and directly via Kino Lorber.  Stay tuned for an update when it’s listed for preorder at Walmart.  The bonus materials set to be included with the release are listed below.

City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly’s Gold on Blu-ray May

The 1994 sequel “City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly’s Gold” starring Billy Crystal is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc, for the first time, on May 25th via Shout Factory‘s Shout Select line. The film, directed by Paul Weiland, co-starred Daniel Stern, Jon Lovitz, and Jack Palance. The tech specs for the release should include a 1080p HD presentation in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio and uncompressed sound, likely in both 5.1 and 2.0 configurations. Stay tuned for if and when those tech specs get officially detailed regarding the sound. The Blu-ray can now be found available for preorder over at Amazon and also directly via Shout! Factory. The bonus materials for this release are currently in production and will be announced closer we come to the release date. So, again, stay tuned for an update regarding this release.

The 1989 cult-classic film “Little Monsters“ is officially making its debut to Blu-ray Disc on September 15th, via Vestron Video & Lionsgate. The film, directed by Richard Greenberg, starred Fred Savage, Howie Mandel, Daniel Stern, Margaret Whitton, Rick Ducommun, Frank Whaley, and Ben Savage. Tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo sound. A digital copy of the film will be included. “Home Alone” comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray September

The 1990 film “Home Alone“ is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on September 15th, via Fox, in the 30th Anniversary Edition — according to multiple retailers. The film, which was directed by Chris Columbus & written by the late John Hughes, starred Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Heard, Catherine O’Hara, Roberts Blossom, and John Candy. The tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed, but stay tuned for an update on that once the studio [Fox] does an official announcement. The art (pictured above) tells us the release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with its original Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital code (copy) of the film included. That said, you can bet on getting all of the previous bonus materials from the original 2008 Blu-ray release. There’s no preorder listing for this 4K UHD Blu-ray yet over at Amazon but you can find it already listed over at retailer Best Buy, retailer Target, and online retailer Deep Discount. Finally, it’s certainly worth noting that there will be an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook for the film available over at retailer Best Buy. Sadly, the cover art for that hasn’t yet been unveiled.

“Born in East L.A.” with Cheech Marin gets Collector’s Edition Blu-ray March

The 1987 film “Born in East L.A.“ written by, directed by, and starring Cheech Marin is coming to Blu-ray Disc in a “Collector’s Edition” on March 19th, 2019 via Shout Select. This film co-starred Daniel Stern, Paul Rodriguez, and Kamala Lopez. The title’s tech specs have yet to be detailed, but it is known that new bonus materials are being created for the release. More details will be given by Shout! Factory about this release in the near future. This upcoming Blu-ray is not yet available to pre-order over at Amazon, but it is available directly over at Shout! Factory’s store. Stay tuned for any updates.
