The 2016 sequel Kung Fu Panda 3 gets a 4K in March

The movie was co-directed by Alessandro Carloni and Jennifer Yuh Nelson. It features the voice talents of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Bryan Cranston, Dustin Hoffman, J.K. Simmons, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, David Cross, Kate Hudson, Jackie Chan, and James Hong.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) and Dolby Atmos sound. The 2-disc release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included, along with a digital code (copy), compatible with Movies Anywhere.

There will also be a Kung Fu Panda 4-Movie Collection on 4K UHD Blu-ray (pictured above) set to be released on March 3rd, also from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. It’s now available for preorder at Amazon and GRUV. That set will not include Blu-ray Disc counterparts, only the 4K discs and digital codes. The full tech specs for the films feature a variety of 2.35:1 and 2.39:1 aspect ratios, each in a 2160p video presentation, with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) and Dolby Atmos sound.

The Phoenician Scheme on 4K and Blu-ray in July

The 2025 film “The Phoenician Scheme” comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on July 29th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Wes Anderson directed and co-wrote the film with Roman Coppola. It stars Benicio Del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Willem Dafoe, Scarlett Johansson, and Rupert Friend. It’s certainly worth noting that the movie is “Certified Fresh” based on reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.47:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 form of high dynamic range. The 4K will also include Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-66 disc. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 1.47:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-50 disc. Both the 4K and Blu-ray will come with a digital copy, compatible with Movies Anywhere. The 4K will be a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.

2011 film Drive comes to 4K in SteelBook this August

The 2011 action/drama film Drive is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in SteelBook form on August 27th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, starred Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Albert Brooks, Oscar Isaac, Christina Hendricks, and Ron Perlman. Below is a glimpse at the entire packaging and disc art for this upcoming SteelBook.

The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos as well as DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless sound. The 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook is now available for preorder at Amazon and retailer Walmart. The 4K release will come as a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital copy. The bonus materials set to be included with this release are listed below.

Steven Soderbergh film Contagion on 4K in February

The 2011 film “Contagion” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 27th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, distributed here by Allied Vaughn.  The film, directed by Steven Soderbergh, starred Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude LawGwyneth PaltrowKate Winslet, and Bryan Cranston.

The tech specs for the release have yet to be fully detailed, but you can expect a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and HDR10 form of high dynamic range and lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround.  There’s no sign of Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos being included with this release.  No Blu-ray counterpart will be part of the release, but you will get a digital code (copy) of the film.  Bonus materials should be identical to the previous Blu-ray and likely are housed on the 4K disc.  Stay tuned for an update on the specifics of the release.  NOTE: This release is said to be MOD (manufactured on demand), however, based on previously released titles, this will not be a burnt disc.

MAJOR UPDATES:  Amazon now has the 4K UHD Blu-ray preorder listing back up.  You can also find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Deep Discount and MovieZyng.  The United Kingdom (UK) will be getting two different 4K UHD Blu-ray releases with one being SteelBook (pictured below) which are now available for preorder over at online retailer Zavvi.

The 2011 animated DC Universe Movie Batman: Year One will be getting a “Commemorative Edition” released to the 4K UHD Blu-ray format on November 9th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film, co-directed by Sam Liu and Lauren Montgomery, featured the voice talents of Ben McKenzie, Bryan Cranston, Eliza Dushku, Jeff Bennett, Jon Polito, Alex Rocco, Katee Sackhoff, Grey Griffin, Robin Atkin Downes, and Stephen Root.

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and the same lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound mix that was found on the previously released [2011] Blu-ray. This set will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film — compatible with Movies Anywhere.

UPDATE: The 4K UHD Blu-ray is now available to preorder over at Amazon.
