Commissions Earned

The films “The Sixth Sense” (1999) and “Signs” (2002) are both officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 22nd via Hollywood Pictures and Touchstone Pictures (Disney). The films were both written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. “The Sixth Sense” starred Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette, Olivia Williams, and Donnie Wahlberg. “Signs” starred Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Rory Culkin, Abigail Breslin, and Cherry Jones. Notably, “The Sixth Sense” is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Below is some information about the restoration process the movies have received.

“The original negatives for both films were scanned at 4K resolution and restored in High Dynamic Range (HDR).”

The tech specs for The Sixth Sense on 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound, on a BD-100 disc. Tech specs for Signs on 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound, on a BD-100 disc. Each release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included along with a digital copy.

UPDATE: The digital versions of the film include Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range. However, these physical media releases on 4K UHD Blu-ray will only include HDR10 and not Dolby Vision. So, you’ll have to watch the 4K digital versions you will get included to experience these films in Dolby Vision.

You can now find “The Sixth Sense” and “Signs” on 4K UHD Blu-ray both available for preorder at Amazon. Rian Johnson film Looper is coming to 4K in February

Amazon Commissions Earned

The 2012 film Looper is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 15th, 2022 via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film, written & directed by Rian Johnson, starred Bruce Willis, Joseph-Gordon Levitt, Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Noah Segan, Piper Perabo, Garret Dillahunt, and Jeff Daniels. It’s also most definitely worth noting that this film, still to this day, is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The film has received a new 4K scan that was “reviewed and approved by the filmmakers” — according to the press release. The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and a new director-approved Dolby Atmos sound mix, along with the original DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film.

UPDATE #1: You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

The bonus materials set to be included on the release include nothing but the previous Blu-ray extras, listed below.

  • Feature Commentary with Director Rian Johnson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt
  • Looper: The Future From the Beginning — Making-of Featurette
  • 22 Deleted Scenes with Commentary
  • Scoring Looper
  • The Science of Time Travel Featurette
  • Looper Animated Trailer

And, yes, I know this has been previously released on the 4K format in the United Kingdom but this will mark the first time it has been available in North America. UPDATE #2: It should definitely be noted that this upcoming US 4K isn’t even using the same video transfer or the same sound mix found on that UK 4K physical release. In fact, the director [Rian Johnson] just recently went as far as to actually discuss his approval of this upcoming 4K release in a tweet (seen below).

Further below, after the break, you can find the trailer for the film and the full announcement regarding the 4K physical release here in the United States of the film.
