Halloween Kills gets Extended cut on 4K and Blu-ray

The 2021 sequel “Halloween Kills” will be getting an “Extended Cut” (as well as the Theatrical Cut) on its 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc release on January 11th, 2022 which is officially coming from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, co-written and directed by David Gordon Green and executive produced by John Carpenter, stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Anthony Michael Hall, Robert Longstreet, Dylan Arnold, Will Patton, Thomas Mann, Scott MacArthur, Michael McDonald, Jim Cummings, Kyle Richards, Nancy StephensMichael Smallwood, and Carmela McNeal.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range as well as Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-100 disc. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Atmos sound on a BD-50 disc. The releases will both come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning the 4K will come with its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray will come with a DVD counterpart, and each will include a digital code (copy) of the film — compatible with Movies Anywhere.

You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. Also, you can find them available over at retailer Best Buy who will be getting an exclusive 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release (pictured below) which is now listed as well.

The bonus materials set to be included with the physical media releases of the film are listed below.

1958 Orson Welles film Touch of Evil on 4K in February

The 1958 film noir Touch of Evil is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 15th, 2022 via KL Studio Classics, according to a social media post. The film, co-written & directed by, plus co-starring Orson Welles, starred Charlton Heston, Janet Leigh, Joseph Calleia, Akim Tamiroff, and Joanna Moore.

This has received a new 4K restoration of the original Theatrical Cut, the “Reconstructed Cut,” and the “Preview Cut.” The tech specs for the release include a Black & White 2160p video presentation in Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range. Each version of the film should theoretically be receiving a lossless Mono sound mix — although they have not been detailed. Also, the aspect ratio has not been specified if it will be in the 1.37:1 negative or the 1.85:1 intended ratios. Stay tuned for an update on all of that hopefully soon? The release will span across a 3-disc set with one BD-100 (triple-layer 100 gigabytes) disc for each version of the film.

Liar Liar gets a 25th Anniversary Blu-ray in January

The 1997 comedy “Liar Liar will be getting a “25th Anniversary Edition” Blu-ray Disc release on January 18th, 2022 via Shout Select (Shout! Factory). The film, directed by Tom Shadyac, starred Jim Carrey, Maura Tierney, Justin Cooper, Cary Elwes, Anne Haney, Jennifer Tilly, Swoosie Kurtz, Jason Bernard, and Amanda Donohoe. This will be spine number 127 in the Shout Select line.

The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround and 2.0 Stereo sound. You can now find the Shout Select Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon as well as directly through Shout! Factory’s website. RUMOR: Last Night in Soho on 4K and Blu-ray January

RUMOR time, folks. It appears that the 2021 film “Last Night in Soho” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on January 18th, 2022 via Universal Studios Home Entertainment, according to a retail source. The film, co-written & directed by Edgar Wright, stars Thomasin McKenzie, Matt SmithMichael Ajao, and Anya Taylor-Joy.

The tech specs and bonus materials for the releases have not yet been detailed, as it has not even officially been announced by the studio. So, I’m only considering this a rumor until it is officially announced. However, as mentioned, one dependable source is indicating the aforementioned release date on physical media. Both releases it appears will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning the 4K will include its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray will include its DVD counterpart, and each will come with a digital code (copy of the film). You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray both available for preorder over at Amazon. And, just in case Amazon decides to remove the release date, I’ve decided to take screenshots of each listing.

1980 film Alligator on 4K UHD Blu-ray in February

The 1980 horror film Alligator is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 22nd, 2022 via Scream Factory (Shout! Factory), in the form of a “Collector’s Edition” release. The film, directed by Lewis Teague, starred Robert Forster, Robin Riker, Michael V. Gazzo, Dean Jagger, Jack Carter, Sydney Lassick, Perry Lang, and Henry Silva.

The tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been announced, but stay tuned for an update later on. It is known that the release will come in the form of a 3-disc “combo pack” meaning you’ll get a Blu-ray Disc counterpart as well as another Blu-ray likely entirely filled with extras (bonus materials). Across those, you’ll get two different cuts of the film.

It’s also worth noting that the film’s sequel Alligator II: The Mutation (1991) will be getting a Blu-ray Disc release on February 22nd, 2022 as well, via Scream Factory.

Animated TV series The Batman on Blu-ray in February

The animated TV show The Batman: The Complete Series is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on February 1st, 2022 via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The show, which ran from 2004 through 2008, featured the voice talents of Rino Romano, Alastair Duncan, Evan Sabara, Danielle Judovits, Kevin Michael Richardson, Mitch Pileggi, Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, and the late Adam West. The show has been fully-remastered in HD.

The tech specs for the Blu-ray, although not yet fully detailed, should presumably include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with a lossless audio mix — likely in a 2.0 Stereo configuration — spanning across a 6-disc set. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the complete series. You can now find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon. Oscar Isaac in The Card Counter on Blu-ray December

The 2021 film The Card Counter starring Oscar Issac is coming to Blu-ray Disc on December 14th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment, according to retailers. The film, executive produced by Martin Scorsese & written and directed by Paul Schrader, co-stars Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan, and Willem Dafoe. It’s worth noting that, at the time of writing, this film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.66:1 (side matted) aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio lossless surround sound, on a BD-50 disc. The release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film, compatible with Movies Anywhere. You can now find the Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.
