The Da Vinci Code gets a 4K SteelBook release in May

The Da Vinci Code DVD set featuring two discs, with packaging that includes artistic images and a decorative design, showcasing a rose and stills from the film.

Ron Howard directed the film, based on the novel [of the same title] written by Dan Brown. It starred Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina, Jürgen Prochnow, Paul Bettany, and Jean Reno.

The tech specs for the 20th Anniversary Edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook included a 2160p video presentation in the [intended] 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10-compatible) high dynamic range, along with Dolby Atmos and lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound.

UPDATED: The 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook is now available for preorder at Amazon.

The release will arrive as a 3-disc set, including a Blu-ray with bonus materials, listed below. Also, the two different versions of the film will be housed on two separate 4K UHD Blu-ray discs, as shown below.

The 2011 film Rango gets a standard 4K in March

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 2.40:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) and lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound, on a BD-66 disc. The 2-disc release will be a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. A digital code (copy) of the film is also included, which is compatible with AppleTV or Fandango at Home (formerly VUDU). The 4K will include both the theatrical version (107 minutes) and the extended version (111 minutes).

The 1995 modern cult-classic sci-fi (science fiction) film Species is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a “Collector’s Edition” on July 26th via Scream Factory (Shout! Factory), according to retailers.  The film, directed by Roger Donaldson, starred Natasha Henstridge, Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Alfred Molina, Forest Whitaker, and Michelle Williams.

The tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed, but stay tuned for any update(s).  It is known that the release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included.  You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.

Spider-Man No Way Home comes to 4K and Blu-ray April

The 2021 Marvel Studios film “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on April 12th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by Jon Watts, stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Marisa Tomei, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, and Alfred Molina.  It should most certainly be noted, at the time of writing, this film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound.  Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in 2.39:1 aspect with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound.  Both releases will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the 4K UHD Blu-ray getting its Blu-ray counterpart, the Blu-ray getting the DVD counterpart, and each includes a digital code (copy) of the film.

The 2021 film “Spider-Man: No Way Home” appears to be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray next year via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, according to retailer listings. There’s no official release date at this point, but stay tuned for a later news story when it gets fully announced.

The 2013 Pixar computer-animated film Monsters University is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 3rd, via Disney, according to retailers. The film, a prequel to “Monsters, Inc.” and directed by Dan Scanlon, featured the voice talents of Billy CrystalJohn GoodmanSteve Buscemi, Joel Murray, Peter Sohn, Helen Mirren, Sean Hayes, Dave Foley, Charlie Day, Tyler Labine, Nathan Fillion, Aubrey Plaza, and Alfred Molina. Tech specs for the 4K and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed but stay tuned for a possible update. It’s very likely the release will come with the HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound – but that’s just speculation based on previous releases. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray Disc counterpart and bonus disc included as well as a digital code (copy) of the film.
