Dirty Work gets a standard 4K release in July

The 1998 film Dirty Work is getting a standard 4K UHD Blu-ray release on July 29th via Vinegar Syndrome. The movie was directed by Bob Saget and was co-written by Norm MacDonald. It starred Norm MacDonald, Artie Lange, Jack Warden, Don Rickles, Traylor Howard, and Christopher McDonald. It also featured appearances by Chevy Chase and Chris Farley. NOTE: This was originally released exclusively online from the distributor, but will now be available elsewhere.

The movie has been newly scanned & restored in 4K from its 35mm OCN [Original Camera Negative]. The release will come in a 3-disc set. The 4K tech specs include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound, on a BD-100 disc. The “combo pack” release will include its Blu-ray Disc counterpart [in 1080p HD]. Another Blu-ray will be included for bonus materials. A total of three versions of the film are included with this release. The 82-minute theatrical cut and 83-minute “Dirtier Cut” are both in 4K and HD on the Blu-ray. There’s also a 2-hour “Assembly Cut” of the movie, sourced from video. Details about that are further below.

The 1987 film City on Fire comes to 4K in August

The 1987 film City on Fire is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on August 26th via Shout! Studios / Hong Kong Cinema Classics. Ringo Lam directed and co-wrote the film. It starred Chow Yun-Fat, Sun Yueh, and Danny Lee. The movie has been newly remastered and restored. Here are some details from Shout! Studios about this and the other upcoming HKCC (Hong Kong Cinema Classics) releases.

Studios, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Film Archives, has been working diligently to remaster and restore several prized hits, all scanned in stunning 4K from the original camera negatives. The video and audio have been restored, and the subtitles have been newly translated. Action fans and martial arts and movie enthusiasts will relish these definitive releases of Hong Kong cinema masterpieces, available for digital download and on-demand across major digital entertainment platforms in the U.S.”

This comes from a new 4K scan from the OCN (original camera negative). The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of HDR. It also includes both the original Cantonese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono sound, with English subtitles, as well as English (dubbed) DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono. The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. The 4K UHD Blu-ray is now available for preorder at Amazon.

The 1953 Western Shane is coming to 4K in July

The 1959 Western “Shane” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on July 15th via KL Studio Classics. George Stevens directed the film. It starred Alan LaddJean ArthurJack PalanceVan HeflinBen JohnsonBrandon De Wilde, and Edgar Buchanan. A Special Edition Blu-ray will also be available on July 15th via Kino Lorber as well.

The movie has received a new master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation. It features a 1.37:1 aspect ratio. The presentation includes Dolby Vision or HDR10 high dynamic range. It also provides lossless Mono sound, all on a BD-100 disc. The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. The tech specs for the Blu-ray Special Edition include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 1.37:1 aspect ratio and lossless Mono audio, on a BD-50 disc.
