The 1989 film “The Abyss” is finally officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 12th via 20th Studios Home Entertainment (Disney). The film was written & directed by James Cameron and starred Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Michael Biehn, Leo Burmester, Todd Graff, John Bedford Lloyd, J.C. Quinn, Kimberly Scott, Captain Kidd Brewer Jr., Christopher Murphy, Adam Nelson, and Chris Elliott. NOTE: This film has not been available on home video since DVD, as it never even received a Blu-ray Disc release.

The tech specs include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-100 disc. The release itself will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray counterpart of the film (for both versions) included along with a digital code (copy) of the film. 1986 James Cameron film Aliens lands on 4K in March

After much anticipation, the 1986 film “Aliens” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 12th via 20th Studios Home Entertainment (Disney). The film, directed by James Cameron, starred Sigourney Weaver, Paul Reiser, Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn, Lance Henriksen, William Hope, Al Matthews, Jenette Goldstein, Mark Rolston, Ricco Ross, Colette Hiller, and Carrie Henn.  This release will include both the theatrical version and the 1990 Special Edition.

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos, on a BD-100 disc. The release itself will come in the form of a “combo pack” with the Blu-ray counterpart of the film (for both versions) included along with a digital code (copy) of the film.  You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at both Amazon and Walmart. The Manchurian Candidate 2004 remake on 4K in March

The 2004 remake of “The Manchurian Candidate” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 19th via KL Studio Classics.  The film, directed by Jonathan Demme, starred Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, Liev Schreiber, Jeffrey Wright, Jon Voight, Roger Corman, Paul Lazar, Bill Irwin, and Anthony Mackie.  It’s certainly worth noting that this film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes, based on critic reviews.

This features a new master from a 4K Scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision or HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and lossless 5.1 surround and 2.0 Stereo audio, on a BD-100 disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included (on a BD-50).

The 1976 version of King Kong comes to 4K in April

The 1979 version of “King Kong” will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a limited edition SteelBook on April 9th via Paramount Home Entertainment.  The film, directed by John Guillermin, starred Jeff Bridges, Charles Grodin, Jessica Lange, John Randolph, Rene Auberjonois, Julius Harris, Jack O’Halloran, and Ed Lauter.  This release will include both the theatrical and extended TV cuts of the film.  The tech specs for the release have not been detailed but you can for sure expect a 2160p video presentation with at least HDR10 form of high dynamic range and lossless audio.  Bonus materials for the release also have yet to be announced.  Stay tuned for an update on tech specs and extras for this release.

Hanna-Barbera’s Superstars 10 on Blu-ray in February

There will be a release of the “Hanna-Barbera’s Superstars 10” complete film collection on Blu-ray Disc on February 20th in a box set (pictured above) as well as in individual releases (pictured below) via Warner Archive.

“In 1987, the legendary animation team of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera brought forth a series of ten feature-length animated features to television, all of which would feature their most popular cartoon characters. These films were sold into syndication as the HANNA-BARBERA SUPERSTARS 10, each providing irresistible entertainment. Yogi Bear and Scooby-Doo each star in three productions, along with a one-time only meeting of THE FLINTSTONES and THE JETSONS, Judy Jetson takes the spotlight in her own adventure, while HUCKLEBERRY HOUND heads up an exciting all-star Western, and the loveable TOP CAT and his gang star is a story set in Beverly Hills. For these productions, Hanna-Barbera was able to use many of the original performers who provided their voice talents in the original incarnations to re-create their roles for these films.
