The Warriors gets standard 4K and Blu-ray in March

The 1979 film “The Warriors” will be getting standard edition releases on 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on March 26th via Arrow Video. The film, directed by Walter Hill, starred Michael Beck, James Remar, Dorsey Wright, Brian Tyler, David Harris, Tom McKitterick, Marcelino Sánchez, Terry Michos, Deborah Van Valkenburgh, Roger Hill, David Patrick Kelly, and Lynne Thigpen.

The film will be presented in its theatrical form, in a “new remaster from the original camera negative supervised by Arrow Films and approved by director Walter Hill.” The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range along with Dolby Atmos, uncompressed Mono, and lossless Stereo sound options.

1995 film Cutthroat Island gets 4K SteelBook in April

The 1995 film “Cutthroat Island” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in an exclusive SteelBook release (available at Walmart) on April 2nd via Lionsgate. The film, directed by Renny Harlin, starred Geena Davis, Matthew Modine, Frank Langella, Maury Chaykin, Patrick Malahide, Stan Shaw, Rex Linn, and Paul Dillon.

The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision or HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included and a digital code (copy) of the film. 2004 version of Mean Girls is coming to 4K in April

According to retailers, the 2004 original version of the film “Mean Girls” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in a limited edition release on April 30th via Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, celebrating its 20th anniversary, was directed by Mark Waters, and starred Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Tina Fey, Tim Meadows, Amy Poehler, Ana Gasteyer, Lacey Chabert, Lizzy Caplan, Daniel Franzese, Jonathan Bennett, and Amanda Seyfried.

The release’s tech specs and bonus materials have yet to be announced but stay tuned for an update. The release will include a digital code (copy) of the film. The 4K UHD Blu-ray is available for preorder now over at Amazon. This will be a limited edition release with special packaging, shown below.

1989 James Cameron Film The Abyss on 4K in March

The 1989 film “The Abyss” is finally officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 12th via 20th Studios Home Entertainment (Disney). The film was written & directed by James Cameron and starred Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Michael Biehn, Leo Burmester, Todd Graff, John Bedford Lloyd, J.C. Quinn, Kimberly Scott, Captain Kidd Brewer Jr., Christopher Murphy, Adam Nelson, and Chris Elliott. NOTE: This film has not been available on home video since DVD, as it never even received a Blu-ray Disc release.

The tech specs include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-100 disc. After much anticipation, the 1986 film “Aliens” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 12th via 20th Studios Home Entertainment (Disney). The film, directed by James Cameron, starred Sigourney Weaver, Paul Reiser, Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn, Lance Henriksen, William Hope, Al Matthews, Jenette Goldstein, Mark Rolston, Ricco Ross, Colette Hiller, and Carrie Henn.  This release will include both the theatrical version and the 1990 Special Edition.

The Manchurian Candidate 2004 remake on 4K in March

The 2004 remake of “The Manchurian Candidate” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on March 19th via KL Studio Classics.  The film, directed by Jonathan Demme, starred Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, Liev Schreiber, Jeffrey Wright, Jon Voight, Roger Corman, Paul Lazar, Bill Irwin, and Anthony Mackie.  It’s certainly worth noting that this film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes, based on critic reviews.

This features a new master from a 4K Scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision or HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and lossless 5.1 surround and 2.0 Stereo audio, on a BD-100 disc. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included (on a BD-50).
