The 1984 album “Purple Rain“ by Prince and the Revolution will get an “Audiophile” Blu-ray on April 25th. Essentially, this is a Blu-ray Audio release. It comes from Warner Records, in partnership with NPG Records and Paisley Park Enterprises. This Blu-ray will include the 2024 Dolby Atmos mix and the original 1984 HD Stereo 2.0 mix at 24-bit in 96kHz. The details about what went into this Dolby Atmos mix are below, taken from a press release.
“The 2024 Atmos presentation of Purple Rain was meticulously mixed from the original multi-track master tapes by Prince’s protege and Best Engineered Grammy nominee Chris James. It was released via all participating Digital Service Providers on June 21, 2024.
“In 2024 we started our year-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of Purple Rain, we are thrilled to present Prince’s masterpiece in ATMOS, providing an immersive, surround auditory experience of Prince’s legendary album. This highly crafted release will present Prince’s iconic work with more space and depth while preserving the beautiful songs that have shaped music and popular culture, and touched the lives of countless fans around the world.” – Paisley Park Enterprises”
Some of you have heard this already streaming via Apple Music in (spatial audio) Dolby Atmos. Yet, this release will go one step beyond that, running at a much higher audio bitrate. As mentioned, it will also include HD Stereo in a 24-bit / 96kHz mix. You can now find this “Audiophile” Purple Rain Blu-ray available for preorder at Amazon. You can also preorder directly via the Rhino Records store.
And one last interesting note about the release date. The release on April 25th comes very close to the date that Prince passed away (April 21st). Fans can now enjoy the classic album in their home theater or home. It will be available in the very highest digital audio quality.

Soderbergh film Presence on 4K and Blu-ray

The 2024 film “Presence” will be released on 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on May 20th via NEON/Decal Releasing. The movie was directed by Steven Soderbergh with a screenplay (written) by David Koepp. It stars Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, and Julia Fox. It’s worth noting that this film has been deemed “Certified Fresh” by critics at Rotten Tomatoes.
The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect with Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD MA 5.1 sound. The 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray are now available for preorder at Amazon.

The 2025 horror film “Heart Eyes“ is coming to Blu-ray Disc on April 15th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Josh Ruben directed the film. It stars Olivia Holt, Mason Gooding, Gigi Zumbado, Michaela Watkins, Devon Sawa, and Jordana Brewster. It’s certainly worth noting that this movie is “Certified Fresh” by critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. The release will include a digital copy, via paper insert, compatible with Movies Anywhere. The Blu-ray is now available for preorder at Amazon and Walmart. The 2001 film A Knight’s Tale arrives on 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook on May 20th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Brian Helgeland wrote and directed the movie, which starred Heath Ledger, Mark Addy, Rufus Sewell, Paul Bettany, and Alan Tudyk.
This 4K release will include the Theatrical Version – 132 min (PG-13) and Extended Version – 144 min (Unrated). Both versions have received a restoration from the original camera negative. The picture & audio were approved by the director (Brian Helgeland). The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10). Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio. The audio presentation will be in Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround on the 4K and Blu-ray discs. The 1992 film “Scent of a Woman” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 27th, via Shout Select (Shout! Studios). This release will be a “combo pack,” with the Blu-ray counterpart included, and is a “Collectors Edition.” Martin Brest directed the film which starred Al Pacino, Chris O’Donnell, James Rebhorn, Gabrielle Anwar, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
The movie has received a new 4K scan from the original camera negative supervised by Director Martin Brest. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0 stereo lossless sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD MA 5.1 and 2.0 stereo sound.

The 2004 film “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 27th via Shout Select (Shout! Studios). Kerry Conran wrote and directed the film which starred Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Giovanni Ribisi, and Michael Gambon.
The movie has received a new 4K transfer from the 35mm digital negative. Tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (or HDR10). Tech specs for the Blu-ray Disc included in this “combo pack” include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The specifics regarding the audio mix(es) for the release have yet to be announced. Stay tuned for an update.
