The 1950 film “Sunset Boulevard” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on August 5th via Paramount Home Media Distribution. This will mark the film’s 75th anniversary. The legendary Billy Wilder co-wrote and directed the movie. It starred William Holden, Gloria Swanson, Erich von Stroheim, Nancy Olson, Fred Clark, and Jack Webb. It’s worth noting that this film is still “Certified Fresh” by critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p Black & White video presentation in a 1.37:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range. It will feature lossless Dolby TrueHD 2.0 Mono sound. The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and a digital copy included. There is no information yet regarding the specifics of the bonus materials. However, you can likely expect legacy DVD & Blu-ray extras to be ported over.

A Minecraft Movie on 4K and Blu-ray in June

The 2024 film “A Minecraft Movie” comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on June 24th via Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. Based on the popular video game (“Minecraft”), the movie was directed by Jared Hess. It stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge.
The tech specs for the 4K include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision or HDR10 form of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos sound. Both releases will include a digital copy compatible with Movies Anywhere.

Battle Beyond the Stars comes to 4K in July

The 1980 Sci-Fi cult classic “Battle Beyond the Stars“ arrives on 4K UHD Blu-ray on July 15th via Scream Factory. Jimmy T. Murakami and Roger Corman directed the film. Corman did not originally take credit for co-directing, but did take executive producer credit. The movie starred Richard Thomas, Robert Vaughn, John Saxon, George Peppard, Sybil Danning, and Darlanne Fluegel.
The movie has received a new 4K scan of the original camera negative. The tech specs include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision or HDR10 form of high dynamic range. The 2015 film “Fury” will get a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release on July 15th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. David Ayer wrote and directed the movie. It starred Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, Jon Bernthal, Jason Isaacs, and Scott Eastwood. It’s certainly worth noting that this film is “Certified Fresh” by critics on Rotten Tomatoes. NOTE: This film was previously released on 4K UHD Blu-ray back in 2018. This version features Dolby Vision, whereas that version only had HDR10.
