The Emperor’s New Groove comes to 4K in December

The 2000 film “The Emperor’s New Groove“ is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 9th via Disney. Mark Dindal directed and co-wrote the original story. The movie featured the voice talents of David Spade, John Goodman, Eartha Kitt, Wendie Malick, and Patrick Warburton. It’s worth noting that this movie is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) with Dolby Atmos sound, on a BD-66 disc. The release will come as a 2-disc “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included, along with a digital code (copy) compatible with Movies Anywhere.

UPDATED: The 4K UHD Blu-ray is now available for preorder at Amazon. The 1992 film Under Siege comes to 4K in January

The 1992 film “Under Siege” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray in Limited Edition sets on January 6th via Arrow Video. Andrew Davis directed the movie that starred Steven Seagal. It co-starred Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Busey, Erika Eleniak, Patrick O’Neal, and Colm Meaney.

Blake Edwards Pink Panther films on 4K in December

Four of the original live-action “Pink Panther” films directed by Blake Edwards are coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 16th via KL Studio Classics. This includes “The Pink Panther” (1963), “A Shot in the Dark” (1964), “The Pink Panther Strikes Again” (1976), and “Revenge of the Pink Panther” (1978). These films all starred Peter Sellers (as “Chief Inspector Clouseau”).

The first movie features a new 4K scan of the 35mm original Technirama camera negative. The other films feature new 4K scans from the 35mm original camera negative(s). The tech specs for each film include a 2160p video presentation in 2.20:1, 2.39:1, and 2.35:1 aspect ratios, in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible), with lossless 5.1 and 2.0 sound, each on a BD-100 disc. Individually, these releases will be a 2-disc “combo pack” with their Blu-ray Disc counterpart(s) included.

The 4K UHD Blu-ray releases of “The Pink Panther” (1963), “A Shot in the Dark,” “The Pink Panther Strikes Again,” and “Revenge of the Pink Panther” are now individually available for preorder at Amazon. The 1997 film “Breakdown“ will finally get an individual 4K UHD Blu-ray release on December 30th via Paramount Home Media Distribution. Jonathan Mostow directed and co-wrote the film. The movie starred Kurt Russell, J.T. Walsh, Kathleen Quinlan, M.C. Gainey, Jack Noseworthy, and Rex Linn. NOTE: This movie was earlier released on 4K UHD Blu-ray as an exclusive with a box set [“Paramount Scares: Volume 2“]. This will mark the first time that it has been available as a stand-alone release in North America.

The 1995 film “Dead Man“ is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on January 6th via The Criterion Collection. The 2015 film “Southpaw“ is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook, as an Amazon exclusive, on December 9th via Lionsgate. Antoine Fuqua directed the film. It starred Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker, Curtis Jackson (“50 Cent“), and Naomie Harris. NOTE: This will be the first time the movie has been available on the 4K UHD Blu-ray format.

The 1991 documentary “Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse“ is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on December 9th via Lionsgate. The documentary chronicles the making of the 1979 Francis Ford Coppola film “Apocalypse Now” and the troubles that arose during its production. It was co-directed by Fax Bahr, Eleanor Coppola, and George Hickenlooper. This included interviews with Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, John Milius, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Laurence Fishburne, and the late Dennis Hopper.

This has received a new 4K restoration. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in a 1.37:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) and lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. The release will include a digital copy of the film, likely only compatible with Fandango at Home.

Both movies have received new 4K scans from the 35mm original camera negative(s).
